(GILBERT'S POV)
It happened about fifty years after we first met. We were on a mission, Henry and I, scouting the territory of a rival pack. We had set up camp for the night, and I had let my guard down. My suppressant herbs were running low, and I had been rationing them carefully, but the stress of the mission had pushed my body to its limits.
My heat hit me like a crashing storm.
I doubled over, gasping, my body burning from the inside out. My scent—my true omega scent—burst forth from me like a physical force, filling the air with its sweetness.
Henry was at my side in an instant, his eyes wide with shock. "Gilbert? Gilbert, what's happening? Are you hurt?"
I couldn't answer. I was writhing on the ground, my body consumed by the agonizing heat that I had managed to suppress for so long. I was burning, aching, desperate for something I couldn't name.
Henry's eyes widened as understanding dawned. "You're an omega. You're in heat."
