I glanced at Alexander questioningly.
He understood immediately.
"After everything that's happened recently," he explained calmly, "I realized it isn't safe for you to go anywhere without security."
I nodded silently.
First Alexander had been attacked.
Then I was kidnapped only days later.
It was only natural to be cautious now.
Especially since I still didn't know whether Lucas Summer had been arrested yet.
When we finally stopped in front of my father's gravestone, I quietly placed the bouquet of flowers down before reaching out to lightly trace the engraved name on the stone.
"Dad… I'm here to see you."
My voice trembled slightly.
"I've missed you so much."
My eyes slowly reddened.
"Not long ago, I dreamed about you again," I whispered softly. "It was the old courtyard back home… I was playing beneath the tree while you repaired my bicycle nearby."
A faint smile appeared on my lips, though it carried sadness.
"I wish that dream never ended."
