Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: The Saintess’s Needle and the Mirror of Truth

Chapter 7: The Saintess's Needle and the Mirror of Truth

The morning mist at the Celestial Sage Academy was no longer the heavy, stagnant fog of the lower blocks. Since Tian Mo had taken residence in the Dragon-Vein Chamber, the very air of the Academy had begun to shift. The Qi flowed toward the Grade E block like a river seeking the sea, drawn by the sheer gravitational pull of Tian Mo's 10x Foundation.

Tian Mo sat on a flat, basalt rock at the edge of the mountain cliff. His eyes were closed, his breathing so slow that a bird had perched on his shoulder, mistaking him for a statue. Inside his mind, the Divine Library (Rank 2) was humming.

[Ding! Rank 2 Feature: Flaw Mirror—Active.]

[Status: Scanning the surrounding 500 meters... 42 threats detected (Level: Low), 1 anomaly detected (Level: High).]

The "anomaly" was currently climbing the winding stone path.

Su Qingyuan, the Saintess of the Myriad Hearts, moved with a silent grace. Her white robes were stark against the dark mountain stone, and in her arms, she carried a chest made of "Spirit-Sealing Wood." Behind her, the Dominating Queen, Mo Ling, walked with her hand on her jade sword, her expression a mixture of protectiveness and a strange, unacknowledged irritation.

Tian Mo didn't open his eyes as they approached.

"You are early, Saintess," Tian Mo's voice drifted across the cliff, as clear as a bell. "The 'Death-Seal' on your heart vibrates more aggressively when you climb to high altitudes. You should have taken the carriage."

Su Qingyuan stopped, her breath catching behind her veil. "I wished to show my sincerity, Teacher Tian. A seeker of truth does not complain about the steepness of the mountain."

Mo Ling stepped forward, her Golden Core aura flaring slightly—a reflex of her newfound power. "The King has sent the twelve High-Grade Spirit Essence stones as promised. But Tian Mo, the Palace is in chaos. High Physician Lu's disappearance has left a vacuum, and the Supreme Teacher Pavilion is demanding an explanation for the 'Shadow' they saw at the banquet."

Tian Mo finally opened his eyes. The golden light in his pupils had faded, replaced by an abyss of deep, tranquil black. He stood up, and the bird on his shoulder took flight, sensing a sudden change in the atmospheric pressure.

"The Pavilion likes explanations," Tian Mo said, his gaze shifting to the chest in the Saintess's hands. "I prefer results. Give me the stones."

The 10x Purification: Saintess's Training

They entered the Dragon-Vein Chamber. The nine students were already there, sitting in perfect meditation. When they saw the Saintess and the Princess, they didn't bow or stammer. They simply acknowledged them with a nod and returned to their focus. This level of discipline, in students who were "Trash" just days ago, sent a chill down Mo Ling's spine.

Tian Mo opened the chest. The twelve Spirit Essence stones pulsed with a blinding azure light.

"Princess," Tian Mo said without looking back. "Stand at the entrance. Use your Golden Core aura to mask the energy fluctuation. If anyone from the Pavilion tries to 'Inspect' us, tell them I am in a state of 'Deep Enlightenment' and any interruption will result in a Qi-backlash that will level this mountain."

Mo Ling gritted her teeth. "You're using a Princess of the Realm as a doorman?"

"I'm using a Golden Core Master as a shield," Tian Mo corrected. "Choose your title, but do your job."

Mo Ling stomped toward the entrance, but she didn't leave. Her curiosity was a tether she couldn't break.

Tian Mo turned to Su Qingyuan. "The Death-Seal on your heart was placed by a Demonic Tunist. It resonates with your heartbeat. Every time you use your 'Life-Qi' to heal others, you are actually feeding the seal. You have been a physician for years, but you have been unknowingly suicide-training."

Su Qingyuan knelt on a prayer mat. "What must I do, Teacher?"

"You will not heal today," Tian Mo said. "You will destroy. I am going to teach you the 'Shattering Needle of the Void'. Most physicians use needles to stimulate life. You will use them to find the flaw in the death-seal and pierce it with 10x the pressure of your own soul."

He threw one of the High-Grade Spirit Essence stones toward her.

"Refine it. Now. Use the Vortex Compression I taught the students. Do not stop until the stone is the size of a grain of rice."

The Mirror of Truth: The Pavilion's Spy

While Su Qingyuan began the grueling process of refinement, the air at the entrance of the cave shimmered.

Shadow Guard #1 (The Librarian) flickered into existence behind Tian Mo. It didn't speak, but it transmitted an image into Tian Mo's mind.

High above the Dragon-Vein Chamber, on a floating kite-array, sat a man in 2-Star Supreme Teacher robes. His name was Elder Yan, a man known for his "All-Seeing Eye" technique. He was a spy for Vice-Principal Mu and the conservative faction of the Pavilion.

Tian Mo's lips curled into a cold smile.

"Flaw Mirror," Tian Mo whispered.

He didn't look at the ceiling. Instead, he adjusted the flow of Qi in the cave. He manipulated the Spirit Essence stones to create a specific refractive index in the mist.

High above, Elder Yan looked through his magnifying lens. "Let's see what this 'Teacher Tian' is really up to. If I catch him using demonic arts..."

Suddenly, Yan's lens turned pitch black. Then, a reflection appeared—not of Tian Mo, but of Yan himself. But it wasn't a normal reflection. It showed Yan's own Dantian, specifically a dark spot where he had been secretly consuming "Spirit-Devouring Pills" to maintain his youth.

"What?! How is this—"

CRACK.

The reflection in the lens "shattered" in his mind. Because the Flaw Mirror reflected the truth of his flaw back at his consciousness, Elder Yan suffered an immediate mental backlash.

"Gah!" Yan clutched his head, his Qi spiraling out of control. His floating kite-array collapsed, and he began to plummet toward the lower forest, screaming in a voice that no longer sounded human.

In the cave, Tian Mo didn't even break his stride. "One fly swatted."

The Breakthrough: Piercing the Seal

Hours passed. The Dragon-Vein Chamber was now a vortex of azure and white light.

Su Qingyuan's forehead was drenched in sweat. The Spirit Essence stone in her palm had indeed shrunk to the size of a grain of rice, but it now glowed with the intensity of a miniature sun.

"Now," Tian Mo's voice commanded, cutting through her fatigue. "The 4th rib, two inches from the sternum. The 'Gate of Sorrows'. The seal's resonance is at its peak right now. If you miss, your heart will stop."

Su Qingyuan gripped a silver needle. Her hands, which had healed thousands, were now shaking.

"Teacher... I can't see the flaw," she gasped. "The Qi is too bright."

Tian Mo walked behind her. He didn't touch her, but he leaned in close, his voice a low hum against her ear. "Don't use your eyes, Saintess. Use the Library... use the logic I gave you. Everything has a crack. Even death."

He placed his hand an inch above her head. A surge of his 10x Refined Qi flowed into her, acting as a lens.

Suddenly, the world changed for Su Qingyuan. The glowing light of her heart became a map of lines and nodes. And there, pulsing with a dark, oily rhythm, was a black thorn wrapped around her heart-valve.

At its very center was a tiny, microscopic white dot.

The Flaw.

"Now!" Tian Mo roared.

Su Qingyuan lunged. The silver needle, powered by the compressed Spirit Essence, pierced the white dot with the speed of a falling star.

PING.

The sound was like a crystal glass shattering in a silent room.

A black, viscous smoke erupted from Su Qingyuan's chest, dissolving into nothingness as it hit the Dragon-Vein's pure Qi. Her aura, which had been gentle and subdued, suddenly surged.

[Notification: Subject Su Qingyuan has broken the Death-Seal.]

[Advancement: Su Qingyuan reached Golden Core - Level 2.]

[New Ability: Divine Life-Death Perception.]

She collapsed forward, but Tian Mo caught her by the shoulders before she hit the ground. She looked up at him, her veil having fallen away during the struggle. Her face was breathtakingly beautiful, but more importantly, her eyes were now clear of the shadow that had haunted her for a decade.

"I... I can breathe," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "Teacher Tian... you have given me my life back."

The Professional Jealousy

Mo Ling, standing at the entrance, watched this scene with a tightening in her chest. She had just seen her rival, the Saintess, achieve a level of purity and power that rivaled her own, and it was all because of him.

"The Pavilion won't wait much longer, Tian Mo," Mo Ling said, her voice sounding sharper than she intended. She walked back into the center of the cave. "Elder Yan has fallen from the sky. They are calling it an 'Assault on a Pavilion Officer'. They are sending a 2-Star Supreme Teacher Investigation Team."

Tian Mo let go of Su Qingyuan's shoulders and turned to face the Princess. He looked at the remaining Spirit Essence stones, which he had been subtly absorbing throughout the session.

[Energy Status: 100% (Foundation Establishment Peak).]

[Ready for 2-Star Ascension.]

"Let them come," Tian Mo said. "I need a 2-Star badge anyway. My current one is starting to feel a bit... small."

He walked toward the center of the cave, where his nine students stood. They were all now at the Foundation Establishment - Level 5 or higher.

"Lu Feng," Tian Mo said.

"Yes, Teacher?"

"Go to the Academy gates. The 2-Star Team will arrive in ten minutes. They will try to arrest me for 'Heretical Arts'. Do not let them pass the first step."

Lu Feng's eyes flashed with a metallic silver light. "And if they use force, Teacher?"

Tian Mo's gaze was cold, reflecting the absolute dominance of a man who saw the world as a collection of fixable errors.

"If they use force," Tian Mo said, "remind them that a Supreme Teacher's first duty is to teach. And today... you are going to teach them the meaning of 'Foundation'."

The Cliffhanger: The Arrival of the 2-Star Team

As the sun set, casting long, bloody shadows across the mountain, three figures in deep purple robes descended from a flying beast at the Academy gates.

They were the Triumvirate of the 2-Star Board. At the lead was Elder Wei, a man whose cultivation was at the Golden Core - Level 5.

"Where is the heretic Tian Mo?" Wei roared, his voice shaking the trees.

A lone student, dressed in the tattered grey robes of Grade E but standing with the posture of an Emperor, stepped onto the path.

"My Teacher is busy," Lu Feng said, his voice echoing with 10x the resonance of a normal cultivator. "You'll have to go through me first."

The 2-Star Team laughed. "A Foundation Establishment brat? You want to block a Golden Core Elder?"

Lu Feng didn't smile. He simply stepped into a horse-stance, and the ground for ten meters around him shattered.

"Teacher said your 'Golden Core' is just a pebble with a crack in it," Lu Feng said. "Let's see if he's right."
