Chapter 3 - Should Have Told You Sooner.

Rena's PoV

"We have had four wedding anniversaries. Where do you think we go every February 13th?"

Vanessa nodded slowly, like she was trying to make sense of my words. After a few seconds, she spoke up.

"I thought you both were celebrating that human lover's day or whatever. Besides, anniversaries without a wedding? Serena, how are you able to do research with that level of thinking?"

My nails are cut short because of work. Otherwise, they would have been digging into my palm right now from how tightly my fists are clenched.

My husband just made a woman his Luna, and Vanessa was doing everything to change the topic by questioning the legitimacy of my marriage.

"If Jason wants a divorce, I can grant him one, but we both signed the marriage papers, so can you stop this?"

Vanessa bobbed her head repeatedly and threw her hands up.

"I mean, if you want to remain in your delusions, that's fine, but do you really think the Sullivans would allow their only princess to marry a man with a wife already?"

I hated how logical that sounded, and I wanted to find the right words to retort, but nothing was coming, and my throat suddenly felt dry.

Luckily, the double door opened, and I smelled Jason's scent before he stepped out of the door. I watched as he glanced around briefly, then his gaze locked onto mine, and he started heading towards us.

Great.

Vanessa is Jason's older sister, which means that even though he is the Alpha, he actually listened to her on many things. When we got married, I had indeed been silly enough to think that Vanessa would get married and move out of the pack.

Five years later, I couldn't tell whether she was single because she enjoyed running the Pack or because she couldn't keep a relationship with her horrible attitude.

My money is on the former. I have seen Vanessa pretend to be nice to people she respected.

Jason stormed over very quickly, and then just like his sister, he grabbed me by the arm and attempted to drag me. I yanked my arm from his grip and stepped back by some distance.

The blue suit looked good on him. I could see how much effort he had put into his hair, too, and the cologne on him smelled expensive and different from anything I had smelled on him.

"Jason, can you explain why Vanessa suddenly seems so confused about us being married?"

Jason glanced at Vanessa and then met my gaze again. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming over?"

"I should be the one asking why you would suddenly decide to make another woman your Luna without informing me." What I really wanted to ask was why he felt the need to have another Luna.

Five years. I had spent five whole years doing my very best just so that all of them could see that I was deserving enough to stand beside him. And just when I thought victory was within my grasp, it felt like someone pulled some silly joke on me.

Like they were mocking me for even daring to dream. For wanting to be something else other than being a stray in their Pack.

Jason swallowed visibly and then glanced at Vanessa. I suspected they are using the mind link, another thing I never got the chance to experience because I was never officially part of their pack.

Then, he turned to me, "Let's talk over there, this place is going to get busy soon," he said while pointing towards a small building behind the hall.

The Supplies building.

I nodded numbly and followed behind him while trying to sort through all the horrible things that I had just witnessed. How does someone even have a Luna that isn't their wife?

What would the dynamics be? Would she live in the same house with us, or would she have a Luna house like Jason had an Alpha house?

Jason stepped to the side and held the door open for me, and I managed a sigh. Even now, he's still a gentleman.

Once the door is closed behind us, there's a quiet silence as I try to figure out what to ask first.

Jason ended up breaking the silence. "How did the presentation go?"

The presentation felt like a week ago. "It was fine, they gave us a promise to invest, and I came because there are some papers that need your signature."

I immediately noticed the way his shoulder relaxed, then he gave me that same boyish smile I fell in love with. "I was so sure that you would get it."

"But you could have given the papers to Kev…"

"So that you could carry on with making another woman the Luna without me knowing?"

Jason flinched and then scratched his neck helplessly. "I wanted to tell you many times…" he paused as though he didn't know what to say anymore, but I stayed silent.

I needed to hear his explanation. Even though I had a strong feeling that our marriage wouldn't survive this, I still wanted to give him a chance. Daisy would want her father.

"The pack has been on my neck about getting them a wife and Luna. When the elders decided on Lucy, I couldn't find a way to decline such a great candidate."

My brain stopped after the first sentence. Not like stopped, but there is this buzzing sound that made me unable to think, so I just blurted out the first thing that came to my mind.

"But you have a wife? You could have just made me, Luna."

Jason looked away, and the guilty look on his face made the buzzing sound increase.

I can't help but remember the surprised look on Vanessa's face, and a new feeling of dread washes over me. "Did you keep our marriage a secret this whole time?"

Jason shook his head hurriedly and then closed the gap between us.

"Rena, I'm sorry. I should have told you sooner."
