Chapter 69 - Chapter 3: The File That Should Not Exist

Morning sunlight poured through the tall windows of the U.A. High School principal's office.

The room, however, felt unusually crowded.

Nearly all of Class 1-A stood inside or along the walls, whispering nervously. Chairs had been pulled from other rooms, desks pushed aside, and a large screen had been rolled into the center of the office.

At the front stood Nezu, paws folded calmly behind his back.

Beside him leaned Shota Aizawa, looking like he hadn't slept in three days.

On the couch sat Ren.

Next to him was Kaito.

Ren looked around the room.

"…This feels like I'm about to get expelled."

Kaito elbowed him.

"Just be quiet."

Across the room, Denki Kaminari whispered loudly to Eijiro Kirishima.

"Dude… what if Ren is secretly a government experiment or something?"

Ren pointed at him.

"HEY."

Kirishima laughed nervously.

"Sorry man."

Nezu tapped the floor with his cane.

The room immediately quieted.

"My dear students," Nezu began politely, "we have gathered you here because the situation regarding Ren has… evolved."

Aizawa sighed.

"That's one way to say it."

Ren raised a hand.

"Can I leave now?"

"No," Aizawa said immediately.

Ren slumped back into the couch.

Nezu clicked a remote.

The screen flickered to life.

A blank digital document appeared.

At the top were three simple lines.

The entire room leaned forward.

Name: Ren Unknown — Calden stated but not confirmed

Age: Unknown — estimated between 15 and 18

Quirk: Unknown

The room went silent.

Denki blinked.

"…That's it?"

Nezu nodded.

"That was the entirety of Ren's official school file."

Ren looked surprised.

"Wait really?"

Aizawa crossed his arms.

"That's what bothered me."

Nezu changed the slide.

More documents appeared.

Hospital records.

Search results.

Government databases.

Every single one looked… empty.

Nezu spoke quietly.

"We searched every registry available."

Another slide appeared.

No Birth Certificate

Next.

No Parent Records

Next.

No Address History

Next.

No Quirk Registration

Next.

No Medical Records Prior To Discovery

Gasps spread across the room.

Mina Ashido raised her hand slowly.

"…That's impossible."

Nezu nodded.

"Yes."

Aizawa stepped forward.

"We checked every hospital in the region."

Another slide appeared.

A hospital file.

One of the only real records they had.

Patient Found — Male

Condition: Severe trauma

Location Discovered: Roadside accident site

Identity: Unknown

Kaito leaned forward.

"…That's when I met him."

The room grew quiet again.

Nezu nodded.

"Correct."

Another slide appeared.

Aizawa spoke this time.

"This was the first moment Ren appeared in any official record."

Ren stared at the screen.

"…So I just… appeared?"

Aizawa didn't answer.

Nezu clicked again.

Now photos appeared.

Old security camera images.

A small hospital room.

Ren sleeping in a bed.

Kaito sitting beside him.

Another photo.

Ren walking through the hospital hallway.

Another.

Ren cooking in the hospital kitchen.

Denki leaned forward.

"…You were cooking already?"

Ren shrugged.

"Food helps people feel better."

Kirishima smiled.

"That's actually really manly."

Nezu continued.

"But after that… nothing."

The screen showed page after page of blank search results.

Government records.

Quirk registries.

National databases.

Every one returned the same result.

No Results Found

The room felt colder now.

Ren looked at his own hands.

"…So I really don't exist."

Kaito immediately shook his head.

"You do."

Aizawa spoke next.

"Legally? Barely."

Everyone turned toward him.

"But to us," Aizawa continued, "you're a student at U.A."

Ren looked up slightly.

Nezu tapped his cane again.

"But… there is more."

Aizawa slowly looked at him.

"Nezu."

Nezu nodded.

"This is the part I did not show Aizawa until today."

The room went silent again.

Nezu clicked the remote.

The screen flickered.

A heavily corrupted file appeared.

Half the text was missing.

The other half looked damaged.

At the top was a single word.

Project: REN

Everyone froze.

Aizawa's eyes narrowed.

"…What."

Nezu's voice dropped slightly.

"This file was hidden extremely deep in an old research archive."

Another page appeared.

The text was partially destroyed.

Subject Stability: UNCONFIRMED

Power Integration: MULTIPLE

Containment Status: FAILED

Ren blinked slowly.

"…I don't like that."

Denki whispered.

"Bro… that sounds like a supervillain origin story."

Kirishima nodded nervously.

"No kidding."

Nezu clicked again.

A final line appeared.

Most of it was corrupted.

But one sentence remained.

If Subject Survives — Do Not Allow Full Activation

The room was dead silent.

Aizawa slowly turned toward Ren.

"…Ren."

Ren looked back at him.

"…Yeah?"

Aizawa exhaled slowly.

"I think someone made you."

Before anyone could react—

The lights flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then the office window cracked slightly.

And on the glass…

A new sticky note appeared.

Written in messy handwriting.

"Ren!!! I heard you had a meeting!!!Are you okay???You looked sad yesterday...Please don't be sad. I like when you smile.— Himiko 💕"

Across the room, several students shuddered.

Ren covered his face.

"…Oh my god."

Kaito groaned loudly.

"NOT AGAIN."

And Aizawa slowly rubbed his temples.

"…I need a vacation."
