Chapter 47 - 47. The 10-Day Condition

A Moment Under the Lamp Post

The soft glow of the street lamp illuminated the lonely bench where Jasper and Seinna sat, casting their shadows on the pavement. The night was quiet, with only the distant hum of traffic and the occasional chirping of crickets filling the air. A cool breeze swept through, making Seinna shiver slightly, but she wasn't sure if it was the wind or the tension between them.

Jasper sat with his arms crossed, his body slightly turned away from her as if putting up an invisible wall. He scoffed, his voice dripping with mockery.

"I know what you're trying to do," he said, tilting his head with a smirk. "You want to manipulate me, say something romantic one last time before we part ways. Fine. Go ahead and spill all your emotions. But don't think for a second that I love you."

Seinna didn't respond. She just stared at the ground, her fingers clenching the fabric of her dress.

Jasper let out a dry laugh. "Say all your cheesy romantic stuff. Say whatever you want. Go on. I'll even mimic how couples talk if that makes you feel better." His tone turned bitter. "I always hated you, you know? From the very beginning. You never understood me."

Seinna still said nothing. Instead, she slowly leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him, pressing her face into his chest. She didn't speak, but her body trembled as silent tears streamed down her face.

Jasper stiffened at the unexpected hug. His hands hovered awkwardly in the air before slowly resting at his sides. He felt something inside him shift, but he quickly pushed it down.

After a moment, Seinna pulled back and reached into her pocket. She held out a wristwatch, identical to the one she always wore. The watch's sleek design glowed faintly under the lamp's light, but Jasper noticed that it was damp—as if it had been touched by her tears.

He hesitated before taking it. Turning it over in his hands, he inspected its craftsmanship. "This is just like your watch," he murmured. "That means it has all those advanced functions… and it must be expensive."

Seinna wiped her tears and forced a small, shaky smile. "Do you like it?" she asked softly.

Jasper slid the watch onto his wrist and stared at it for a moment. Then, in a nonchalant voice, he said, "Yeah, I like it. But don't think this means I'll start loving you."

Seinna nodded, her expression unreadable. "Okay," she said quietly. "Then don't love me. But at least… forgive me for what I did." Her voice cracked at the end, and more tears welled up in her eyes.

Jasper let out a sigh, rubbing the back of his neck. "Ugh, stop crying already," he groaned. "People are gonna think I'm bullying a girl or something. Fine, I forgive you. But that doesn't mean anything else. Got it?"

Seinna exhaled in relief, her hands clenching against her chest. "Then… please don't leave me like this. You don't have to love me. You can even ignore me. But… just knowing that you're still here makes me happy."

Jasper chuckled dryly. "You really are unbreakable, huh? After everything that's happened, you still came here, still saying these things." He shook his head before continuing, "Listen, I'm not going anywhere for five months. That's my promise. But don't think I'll suddenly stay by your side. I'll still ignore you." He smirked. "You think you're strong, but in the end, you're just stubborn."

Seinna's voice was barely above a whisper. "Because I love you."

Jasper's eyes flickered with something unreadable, but he quickly masked it. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a silver chain with a glowing blue sword pendant—the Dragonis Necklace.

"I actually picked this up," he admitted. "I know you made this for me… but don't think it means anything."

Seinna's lips parted slightly in surprise. She took the necklace with trembling hands and slowly placed it around her neck. As soon as it touched her skin, the blue sword glowed faintly.

Jasper stood up, dusting off his pants. "Alright, I'm leaving."

Seinna's fingers tightened around the pendant as she stared at him. "Wait," she called out. "You once said that I failed to understand your feelings. Tell me, Jasper. How can I understand you? What do I need to do to make you fall for me?"

Jasper halted mid-step. Slowly, he turned back and sat down beside her again. He leaned back against the bench, gazing up at the night sky. After a long silence, he finally spoke.

"You'll never understand," he said. "Because from the start, you had a family. I didn't. That's the difference between us. But…" He exhaled and turned his gaze toward her. "I know you'll keep trying in your own way. So listen carefully, because I'm only saying this once."

Seinna wiped her tears, leaning in closer. This time, she knew—this time, he was truly opening up.

Jasper smirked slightly. "I'll give you ten days."

Seinna blinked in confusion. "What?"

"Ten days," he repeated. "Do something—anything—that actually makes me fall for you. You can ask for help from anyone. But if you fail… you'll never show me your face again."

Seinna's breath hitched. "Ten days… That's my last chance?"

Jasper nodded, crossing his arms. "Yeah. And don't think you can just use cheap tricks like some desperate girl, stripping in front of her boyfriend to make him fall for her body. That won't work on me."

Seinna's face turned bright red, and she stammered, "W-What?!" She clenched her fists and muttered, "B-But… you already saw everything, didn't you? You downloaded my private videos, so you've already seen me… fully exposed."

Jasper burst into laughter, his voice echoing into the night. "Hah! That's true, huh? But don't worry, I didn't watch all of it. I swear! At first, I thought I could blackmail you with it, but damn… You punched me so hard that I'm still seeing stars. You're like an HD Pro Hero. You almost killed me!"

Seinna covered her mouth, trying to hold back a laugh. Seeing Jasper laugh so freely for the first time made her heart feel lighter.

Jasper finally calmed down and stood up again. "Alright, I'm really leaving this time. And don't get the wrong idea—just because we had this little 'moment' doesn't mean I'm going to fall for you."

Seinna watched as he walked away, his figure disappearing into the night. She sighed, running a hand through her hair. "Ten days… This is my last chance."

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

No matter what it takes… I will win his heart.

And with that determination, she stood up and walked away, ready to begin the greatest challenge of her life.

The warm glow of lanterns flickered inside Aiko's grandmother's house, casting soft shadows along the wooden walls. A quiet stillness filled the air as the three of them—Jasper, Serena, and Seinna—sat together in the modest yet comfortable living space. Outside, the gentle rustling of the trees and distant chatter from villagers created a peaceful ambiance, a stark contrast to the brewing tension inside.

Aiko's grandmother entered the room with her usual calm demeanor, placing a tray of tea on the table. She sighed before speaking.

"Ryu, Kai, and Aiko have moved to another hotel," she explained. "They wanted private rooms for their Chunin Exam training. It's an important step for them."

Jasper, lounging lazily on the couch, stretched his arms behind his head. "Well, good for them," he muttered. "That just means we'll be staying here for the next five months."

Serena, who was flipping through some newly bought kimono fabrics, paused and looked up at him with an arched eyebrow. "Wait, five months? What happened to leaving tomorrow?"

Jasper smirked. "Change of plans. The Chunin Exams are gonna be entertaining. Besides, Ghesso said something interesting might happen. Thought I'd stick around."

Serena shrugged. "Well, no complaints from me. I've got plenty of new outfits, and I don't mind taking it easy for a while." She then turned to Jasper, her eyes narrowing in amusement as she noticed something on his wrist.

"Hold up… is that what I think it is?" she asked, leaning forward.

Jasper glanced at his wrist, realizing she was talking about the new high-tech wristwatch—the one identical to Seinna's.

Serena grinned mischievously. "Ohhh, how romantic!" she teased. "Matching watches? You two are basically a couple now."

Jasper scoffed. "Tch. Shut up, it's just a watch."

Seinna, who had been quietly sipping her tea, decided now was the time to bring up something important. She turned to Serena with a determined expression.

"Serena, I need your help," she said seriously.

Serena tilted her head curiously. "With what?"

Seinna took a deep breath. "The 10-day challenge."

Serena blinked. "The what?"

Jasper, who had been drinking his tea, nearly choked. "Tch—what the hell are you saying now?!" he snapped.

Seinna ignored him and continued. "Jasper gave me 10 days to make him fall for me. If I fail… then he'll never talk to me again."

Serena's jaw dropped before she burst out laughing. "Wait, wait, let me get this straight—this stubborn idiot actually gave you a time limit?!"

Seinna nodded.

Serena wiped a tear from her eye, still chuckling. "That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard… but I love it! Okay, I'm in. I'll help you win his heart!"

Jasper groaned, rubbing his temples. "You two are wasting your time. It's not gonna work."

Serena ignored him and leaned closer to Seinna, whispering conspiratorially. "Alright, listen up. Jasper's not like normal guys. Sure, he's a massive pervert and throws out all those smooth, dirty comments at women… but when it comes to actually falling for someone? He's impossible."

Seinna sighed. "I know. That's why I need to figure out what makes him tick."

Serena tapped her chin in thought. "Well, here's the thing—you have to do something that gets past his usual defenses. He's stubborn, so we need to use that against him. And since he's such a flirt, why not fight fire with fire?"

Jasper's eye twitched. "I can hear you two idiots, you know."

Serena smirked. "Good! Then hear this too—you, Jasper, are a pervert. So, the best way to win you over is through seduction."

Jasper slammed his cup down. "That won't work on me!"

Serena grinned wider. "Oh? You sure about that? I bet if Seinna suddenly started acting all seductive, teasing you with that soft voice of hers, and getting real close, you'd be struggling to keep your cool."

Jasper crossed his arms defiantly. "Tch. Not a chance."

Seinna watched the exchange, deep in thought. "So… you're saying if I become more confident and teasing, he might actually take me seriously?"

Serena nodded. "Exactly! Men like Jasper don't fall for the usual lovey-dovey stuff. You have to make it impossible for him to ignore you. Get under his skin, challenge him, and most importantly—don't back down."

Seinna smirked slightly. "That… might actually work."

Jasper pointed a finger at both of them. "I swear, if either of you tries anything stupid, I'm gonna—"

Serena waved him off. "Relax, we're just talking." She then winked at Seinna. "But seriously, I think you should go for it. Seduce the hell out of him. Let's see if he's as unshakable as he claims."

Jasper groaned and leaned back against the couch, muttering to himself. "This is gonna be the worst 10 days of my life."

Seinna smiled to herself. No, Jasper… this will be the best.

CTS TIME: RE250.06.01 – 11:30 PM

Location: Homurakage's Office, Hikarashi Village

The dim glow of candlelight flickered against the wooden walls of the Homurakage's office, casting long shadows over the room. The air was thick with tension as the village's elite Jonin instructors gathered around a large, circular table. Scrolls and reports were scattered across its surface, detailing the upcoming Chunin Exams—the trial that would determine the future of Hikarashi's young shinobi.

At the head of the table, the 4th Homurakage sat with his hands folded, his piercing gaze sweeping across the assembled Jonin.

"We begin," he said in a low, commanding voice.

The Four Jonin Sensei

Kenshiro Arakata – "The Blazing Fang" (Sensei of Team 7)

A former ANBU Captain and the wielder of the Akarugan.

A tactical genius in battle but known for his laid-back attitude outside of it.

The only Jonin in the room who kept his headband covering one eye, keeping his true power hidden.

Gaius Rengoku – "The Unbreakable Fist" (Sensei of Team 6)

A powerhouse, built like a walking mountain, known for breaking boulders with his fists.

Loud, reckless, and full of energy, the complete opposite of Kenshiro.

Sees Kenshiro as his eternal rival, always competing in strength and endurance.

Hoshiko Amateru – "The Moonlight Phantom" (Sensei of Team 5)

A deadly assassin turned Jonin, specializing in Genjutsu and Medical Ninjutsu.

Silent and coldly efficient, she rarely shows emotion.

Despite her beauty, her presence unnerves even veteran shinobi.

Hideo Kazehara – "The Sleeping Demon" (Sensei of Team 4)

Constantly seen half-asleep, but a tactical genius in battle.

His use of Wind and Shadow Ninjutsu makes him nearly impossible to detect.

Smokes a long wooden pipe, much like Asuma Sarutobi.

The Jonin exchanged glances, each of them knowing the real reason for the meeting.

The Chunin Exams were dangerous—not every Genin would make it through.

And some teams… were weaker than others.

Gaius Rengoku was the first to speak, his booming voice breaking the silence. "Let's not pretend. The weakest team here is Team 7."

Kenshiro's expression didn't change.

Hoshiko Amateru nodded. "I agree. Your team is… lacking, Kenshiro."

Hideo Kazehara exhaled a puff of smoke from his pipe. "Except for that Kurogami kid," he muttered. "He's got potential. The other two? Not so much."

Kenshiro remained silent, his fingers tapping lightly on the table.

Gaius leaned forward, smirking. "Face it, Kenshiro. Your team has only one true talent—Kai Kurogami. The other two? Ryuji is a loud-mouthed fool with no discipline, and Aiko… well, she's competent, but nothing special."

Hoshiko's sharp eyes flickered toward Kenshiro. "I heard your Genin failed the first bell test. And in sparring, Ryuji still can't control his chakra properly."

Kenshiro sighed. "You guys really like talking, huh?"

Gaius chuckled. "We're just being realistic. My Team 6 is built for power—Daisuke is a Taijutsu monster, Tama has th Shirayugan and Fire Release mastery, and Mizuki is an assassin in the making."

Hoshiko smirked. "My Team 5 is balanced—Haruki is the fastest Genin, Reina is a genius in Genjutsu and Medical Ninjutsu, and Souta is an expert in Kenjutsu. They work like a perfect machine."

Hideo, still half-asleep, mumbled, "And my Team 4… well, we don't need to discuss them. You all know how terrifying they are."

A silence fell over the room.

Everyone knew about Team 4.

Tetsuo Kurogane was a beast in combat.

Rento Hagane was a strategic mastermind.

And Hana Aihara… her Shirayugan made her the most unpredictable of all.

Even Gaius didn't argue.

But then, Homurakage finally spoke.

"You underestimate Team 7."

Every Jonin turned to look at him.

"You all see only the present. But a shinobi's strength is not just what they are today—it's what they can become."

He looked directly at Kenshiro. "You believe in them, don't you?"

Kenshiro finally smiled, leaning back in his chair.

"More than you know."

After much discussion, all four Jonin confirmed their teams for the Chunin Exams.

Homurakage closed his eyes, thinking.

The Chunin Exams would test more than strength.

It would test heart, intelligence, and survival instincts.

And in the shadows, greater forces were already moving.
