The smell of cologne and mint hit me. It was Kiros scent, the one that used to make my heart skip a beat with happiness.. Now it just made me feel sick. I could sense him sitting next to me. Every move he made the sound of his bag hitting the floor brought back the pain of my past.
"I'm Kiro by the way " he said. His voice was cold, smooth and full of charm.
I turned to him. Tried not to shake. In my life I fell for him right here. That angelic smile hid a demon.
"I know " I almost said,. I bit my lip. "Nice to meet you Kiro. I'm Claire " I said instead. Simple. No emotions.
Kiros eyebrow went up a bit. He was probably used to girls swooning over him but not me. I just stared at him like he was a stranger.
Inside I wanted to hurt him with the pen I was holding. I wanted to ask him why he did that to me.. I had to calm down. If I wanted to change my fate I needed to outsmart him.
The history teacher started the lesson. Divided us into groups. Luck. I ended up with Kiro.
The teacher gave us our topic so I made a plan.
"May and Will go search the library. Just send me what you find " I told them. They agreed. I looked at Kiro, who was staring at me.
"What about you? Whatever you do just send me what you see in the library and I'll handle our report " I said.
The three of them nodded. The bell. Our first subject ended. I left with my friends Amber and Lila. Saw my stepsister, Serena Rivera.
"Ate Claire!" she shouted.
I just looked at her.
"You okay, sister? You look like you have a problem " she asked.
"No problem. You're the problem just joking " I teased.
Serenas face. She tried to hide her anger.
"Alright Serena we'll go first. We still need to buy food " I said, leaving her behind.
We. Then I heard a familiar voice. "Claire wait!"
I turned around. Kiro was running to catch up with us.
"I wanted to come but I don't know where the cafeteria is " he said.
" course come " Amber said, holding Kiros hand. Serena stared at us.
As we walked they. I kept telling myself not to get angry. "Why did they bring him along?"
We reached the cafeteria. It was crowded and noisy. After buying food I excused myself to go to the bathroom. Kiro stared at me.
Inside I saw Serena and her friends bullying another girl. They looked at me.
"Sister " Serena said. I just looked at her.
Someone splashed water on me. I got wet. They laughed. I controlled my anger.
"Serena if you don't stop you might lose your allowance. Your mom doesn't have a job " I said.
Serena got angrier. "Who do you think you are?" she snapped.
"I'm your step-sister " I said, stepping closer and splashing water on her face. I grabbed the girl they were bullying and led her out. We heard Serena scream. The girl thanked me.
"Thank you... I'm Helen " she said.
"I'm Claire Rivera " I said.
She looked surprised. "You and Serena are siblings?"
I smiled. "We're stepsisters. I need to go." I said goodbye. Returned to the cafeteria.
I saw May and Lila with Kiro.
"Girl why were you so long?" Lila asked.
"Sorry it was crowded in the bathroom " I said. Kiro stared at us.
"Lets go now; we might be late for our subject " I said. They nodded.
In class the teacher just discussed briefly. Left early because all teachers had a meeting.
Students began leaving. I was left with Amber, Lila and Kiro.
"Claire we're just going to the registration office for a while. We have to fix some things with our subjects " Amber said.
I nodded, not realizing that only Kiro and I were left in the room. The classroom became eerily silent. I felt Kiros stare. His look now was sharp, analyzing.
"What?" I asked him.
"You look pretty Claire " he said.
I laughed. "Kiro you're really good at joking."
"I'm not joking, Claire. You're pretty and simple " he said. I touched his shoulder.
"Kiro if I were you of trying to make me fall... About the report make sure you do your part. I don't want to carry my groupmates " I said, leaving him sitting
As I walked down the hallway I bumped into a boy. He had skin and slanted eyes.
"Whoa! Are you okay?" he asked.
I looked up. It was Inigo Wang, a varsity athlete at our school. I was surprised.
"Thank you " I said.
"You're welcome. By the way I'm Inigo Wang. And you?"
"I'm Claire Rivera. Nice to meet you " I said.
"Going home now?" he asked.
I nodded. "Yeah I'm going home."
"Lets go together " he smiled.
"Yeah lets go together " I said.
While walking I felt someone watching me. I looked toward the building. Saw Serena staring at us obviously irritated. I knew she had a crush, on Inigo.
As we walked on campus we. Told jokes.
When my dads car arrived I got in. Said goodbye to Inigo. Serena also got in without saying a word. I got on my phone. My dad said, "How is school my two beautiful princesses?" I said, "It's okay Dad. I have a lot of work." I answered him "It was good Dad." Serena replied. She was not in the mood. When we got home I immediately went to my room got dressed lay down and thought of a plan.
In my life I was too kind and they took advantage of me. Now I will use everything to protect myself. I'm not the Claire who used to be kind. Now I will take revenge on you Kiro. My revenge is just starting, little by little. I will destroy you. The war is getting started.. You Serena I will put first.
I told myself. Suddenly someone knocked on my door. It was my Nanay Flora. "Claire Daddy said you're going to eat " said Nanay Flora. "I'm going out " I said.
When I came out downstairs Aunt Mitch and Daddy were there well as Serena. " Evening, Aunt and Daddy " I greeted them. Serena just stared at me without saying a word. Then she spoke, "Is Inigo your boyfriend?" she asked me. I was surprised by what she said. Daddy Lester and Aunt Mitch looked at me.
"What question is that Serena?" I asked her. "Why were you guys earlier?" she asked. "You don't care anymore?" I told her. "I care. I'm your sibling " she said. "Yes we are siblings, but not by blood " I answered her. "Claire fix your words " Aunt Mitch shouted.
"Why is it true? He doesn't care who I'm with. Yes Inigo is my boyfriend. What are you going to do?" I. Shouted at them. "Claire that's enough " Daddy shouted at me. "Enough why did I start this?" I answered Daddy. I stood up. "I've lost my appetite " I. Left.
I entered my room holding a photo of my mommy. "Mommy I wish you were here so I could have a friend. I miss you " I cried. When I said that the photo of my mommy suddenly made my eyes close. I just woke up to my alarm clock. I did my routine got dressed and brushed my teeth.
I saw the three of them eating and ignored them. I continued walking until I was out of our house. I was in front of our school when I saw two of my friends, Amber and Lila. I shouted at them "Amber, Lila wait." They looked at me. I greeted them " morning, my two beautiful friends."
" morning, the most beautiful girl " they greeted me at the same time. "Oh you look like you're crying, Claire. What happened?" Lila asked me. "I cried because I just miss my mommy. That's why I cried night " I answered Lila.
"It's okay. Where is this going and we'll be late " Amber said to us. The three of us were walking when I saw Inigo. I smiled at him. "What's that? You two look like theres something " Amber said to me.
"I can smell something. L-O-V-E, LOVE " Lila said. I just laughed at what they said. "What love? Didn't we just go out of the gate together yesterday? We were talking and talking " I said to them. They both got excited.
"Hey lets go. We might be late " I said to them. When we entered the classroom I saw Kiro sitting down doing something. I sat down. "Good morning, Kiro. Your part in our reporting is done " I asked him. He just looked at me. Handed me his finished report.
"Thanks " I said. All our female classmates looked at me. "Claire is it true?" Bianca asked me. "Claire OMG " Samantha said. "You both look good together as a couple " Trisha said.
"I hope it's right guys? You two are super good together " May said. "What do you mean? You don't get it?" I asked them curious. Amber came over to me. Lila showed me the picture of me and Inigo walking together.
"OMG, Lila were right. They both have something " Amber said. "See I told you because I smell something because of his smile earlier " Lila said. "Hey guys that's not true " I denied.
I looked at Kiro, who was just quiet. In my mind what if I make him jealous so he can feel how pain they did to me? Why did I... He might be jealous; maybe he doesn't like me anymore I asked myself.
"Yes guys, Inigo and I are a couple but someone has seen us " I lied to them. They all got excited and jumped up and down. "Why are you keeping your cheating secret from us your friend from Elementary to college?" Amber told me.
"Yes of course " Lila said. "Because I want it to be secret and normal " I lied to them. The bell suddenly. Our Mathematics teacher came in discussing and showing a new formula in Mathematics.
"Mathematics is hard " I told them. "Yes Kiro you seem quiet now " Amber said. "Yes you were quiet earlier " Lila said. "I'm fine. I'm just not, in the mood now " he replied.
"Lets go to the cafeteria guys " Amber told us. "I'm fine " I said. "Yes of course Kiro are you coming with us to the cafeteria?" Lila said. "I'm full yet " he said. "Okay lets go " Lila said goodbye.
We were walking down the hallway. All the students were staring at us and whispering. When we got to the cafeteria Serena came over.
"So it's true that Inigo is your boyfriend " she asked me.
"I told you last night. You didn't believe me " I said.
"Sister why are you like this? You've been angry since yesterday. What's wrong with you?" she asked.
"It's a sin. I don't even want to think about it " I. Walked away from her.
"Claire did you guys fight?" Lila asked me.
"No we didn't fight " I said.
"Lets just go buy some food " she suggested. We bought food.
When we got back to class I saw Inigo standing in front of our classroom. I was shocked. I ran to him.
"Inigo!" I shouted.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Before you answer my question..." I grabbed him from afar. All my classmates looked at us including Kiro.
"Inigo I need to tell you something. Can you pretend to be my boyfriend? Someone is spreading a picture of us " I said.
"You're my boyfriend " I reminded him.
"That's okay. I agree " he said. I hugged him.
"Thank you much Inigo " I said.
"Okay I'll be back. Maybe our class is starting " I said.
"Goodbye " I said. He said goodbye back to me.
When I entered our classroom my classmates were excited my two friends.. Kiro just sat quietly on the seat next, to us. Our Purposive Communication Teacher came in. Started teaching us.
