Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Proposal that wasn't Mine.

Seraphina Vale had imagined this night countless times, practicing every possible smile in the mirror, every graceful turn, every soft laugh. But never like this.

The grand ballroom of Lumina Tech's anniversary gala glittered under the glow of hundreds of chandeliers. The light refracted across polished marble floors, glinting in crystal flutes of champagne held by perfectly dressed investors and media personalities. The air smelled of expensive perfume and fresh roses. Music floated lightly over the chatter, masking the hum of ambition, greed, and carefully hidden rivalries.

At twenty-six, Seraphina was the CEO of a billion-dollar empire, a woman who had clawed her way from a tiny apartment startup to the top of the tech world. Tonight should have been her triumph.

Instead, she froze.

Derek Caldwell, her fiancé, knelt down in front of Evelyn Vale, her sister.

Seraphina's heart lurched, a cold shock running down her spine. Every instinct screamed at her: move, stop him, yell, scream.. but her body stayed still.

"Evelyn Vale," Derek said, his voice low and smooth, perfectly measured. "You are the woman I truly love. I should have realized it long ago."

A ripple of gasps cut across the room. Cameras flashed. Phones raised instinctively. The audience already framed the story in their minds.

Evelyn's eyes sparkled with tears, her hand shaking as she lifted it toward her face. It was too perfect, the performance of innocence, the kind that won headlines.

Seraphina's gaze fell to the ring.

Her ring. The one she had designed herself months ago, staying up late into the night perfecting every curve, every setting, every facet. Now it glittered under the chandelier lights, slipping onto Evelyn's finger like a silent declaration of victory.

Applause rippled through the crowd. Not for Seraphina, not for justice, but for drama and spectacle.

Then suddenly, the large screen behind them flickered to life. A hotel room appeared and a man walking in carrying an unconscious Seraphina to the bed.

The angle suggested betrayal.

The room turned hostile within seconds.

"She cheated?"

"At her own company's gala?"

Derek rose and faced her.

Seraphina stepped forward slowly.

"You drugged me," she said quietly.

He leaned close enough for only her to hear.

"You were useful. That is all."

Derek finally turned to her,too calm, too Composed, too Calculating.

"I'm sorry, Seraphina," he said, voice loud enough for the room to hear. "But I cannot marry someone who betrayed me."

Every word landed like a hammer strike.

Seraphina's hand moved before thought could even whisper caution.

SMACK.

The sound echoed sharply, bouncing off the walls. Cameras clicked faster than ever. Derek staggered, stunned. Evelyn clutched his arm, tears streaming in exaggerated precision, a picture-perfect actress.

The crowd cheered, oblivious to the truth.

Seraphina let herself feel the storm inside her, but the calm mask remained.
