Chapter 4 - A Man's Best Friend (Chapter 4)

Before Christian could process it, the adult wolves had several energetic pups.

Each pup either had fully black fur, fully white fur, or a mix. Each one had a mixed red and blue magic gem in the middle of their forehead, which Christian did not know what that was or what it meant. There were four pups in total.

Christian made sure to make the fire extra large tonight to keep the wolves warm and to provide light for them. The female wolf looked exhausted from giving birth and was laid out on the ground with the male wolf next to her giving her comfort.

Even though the wolves were alive and would be okay, they still were not at one hundred percent health. Christian remembered how he felt all the way when he was talking with the God of the universe. When he felt so alive when the green light surrounded him. He wondered if he could use the same magic on them.

He walked over to the wolves slowly, making sure they saw him approaching. They looked at him with soft eyes as their pups played around them. They seemed to be giving him a sign it was okay to pet them. One of the pups even ran up to Christian and jumped on him playfully.

Christian placed his hands on top of each of their heads. He imagined the green energy around him, and it manifested into existence. The green aura came out of Christian and slowly enveloped both the adult wolves before vanishing after a few seconds. A few more seconds passed, and the bruises on both the wolves disappeared. The wolves' eyes seemed to widen in amazement.

Both of the wolves stood up and licked Christian's face in thanks. He laughed with happiness as the idea worked for him. His blessing not only allowed him to heal himself, but others as well. The pups seemed overjoyed that their parents were now in full spirits again.

It was getting late, but Christian still had enough energy to get some work done. Since the wolf family grew larger, he made them a shelter in the corner of the campsite. It was nothing fancy. Just a few walls with a roof to protect them from rain, snow, etc. As well as a few wooden bowls filled with water for them to drink out of and a small campfire to keep them warm.

Christian had no idea if the wolves would stay here or not. However, he was grateful for the company instead of being alone by himself like usual. It was getting very late now, and Christian had grown very tired since completing the wolf house.

He walked back into his log cabin and fell asleep on his bench.

He woke up with one of the pups licking his face. The sun was about to hit peak height in the sky, meaning he woke up closer to noon. The stream's cold water made Christian feel more awake as he re-filled the wooden bowls for the wolves. The cooked corn tasted good as well as he roasted it over the fire.

The two adult wolves were playing with their pups as Christian watched them from afar. He decided to give them all names. The male adult wolf he named Flaro. He named the adult female wolf Darya. He named each of the pups: Kiya, Lola, Conan, and Ash. Christian didn't know if he would be able to keep up with all the names once the pups grew up and had pups, but he would try.

Christian worked on expanding his log cabin. He created more walls and made his interior space larger. He managed to make a bed frame and had everything ready to go for an actual bed once he obtained a mattress and sheets. Once he finished this, he walked outside and started plucking vegetables from the first crops he planted there and placing them into a wooden bucket he made earlier.

He felt Darya nudge his shoulder as he was plucking a tomato from the crop.

"What is it, girl?" Christian said to the wolf as he petted her head. Darya led him right outside the entrance of the campsite and looked at the moat and then back at Christian. He looked confused at what Darya was implying.

"The moat?" Christian asked.

Darya turned toward the moat and closed her eyes. The blue jewel on her forehead began to glow, as well as her eyes. Suddenly, water began to burst forth from thin air from her jewel into the moat. Within a matter of minutes, the water was so rapid it filled the moat up completely.

Christian stood there in shock. He had no idea the wolves possessed magic like this.

"Thank you so much, Darya! I really appreciate it," he said to her as he patted her head. "I will make sure to get you some nice treats and stuff later for your help. As well as for any of the others who do as well."

They walked back inside the campsite. Christian noticed Flaro using his red magic jewel to create flames. He gave head pats to Flaro as well. Between Darya and Flaro, Christian did not have to worry about re-starting the fire or worry about running out of water. Since both of the adult wolves were at one hundred percent health again, they were able to use their magic efficiently.

This was only a fraction of their power, but Christian did not know this.

He went back to collecting more food from his crops in his wooden buckets, which he placed inside his log cabin safely to store. Since it was approaching evening, the wolves moved toward their new wolf house and settled inside it.

Life for Christian was getting a lot better now.

The presence of the wolves made him feel less lonely and proved to be very useful. They helped Christian with defenses for his campsite and kept everybody warm with the fires. As well as providing useful light during the night. Without the wolves, progress would have been a lot harder.

He thought about everything he had accomplished so far. An extended wooden cabin. Check. A wooden fence around the perimeter. Check. A moat. Check. Several crops to feed myself and the wolves. Check. Everything so far, he had the essentials to live out here. He wanted to build up his base more before considering exploring outside of it.

He fell back asleep on his bench from day one. Content with daydreaming about life with his wolves. However, that dreaming would not last long because of what happened the day after.

What happened? Well, he met a vampire girl.
