Maya's POV
"What are you doing here looking for work?" The words came out sharper than I intended as I stared at Bianca standing in my temporary office doorway.
Penny immediately sensed the shift in atmosphere and rose from her chair with practiced grace.
"I should go get us some coffee," she said diplomatically. As she moved past me, her voice dropped to a whisper meant only for my ears. "I'll contact hotel security."
Bianca watched Penny's retreat with the satisfied expression of a predator who had just cornered her prey.
"How adorable that you're playing at public relations work, Maya," she drawled, stepping further into the room and casting a dismissive glance at the carefully organized resumes on my desk. "Though you'll never achieve what I accomplished with Pinnacle PR through years of dedicated effort."
"That must explain why Pinnacle lost the Sterling contract," I shot back, fighting to project confidence I didn't entirely feel.
