The taxi pulled away from my building as twilight painted the sky in shades of amber and rose. Victor's revelations still echoed in my mind, each word a puzzle piece that refused to fit into place. Someone was masquerading as me, systematically destroying my relationship with Sebastian while feeding Sterling secrets to Moonlight.
My temples throbbed as I climbed the concrete steps toward the entrance. All I craved was the sanctuary of my apartment, scalding water cascading over my shoulders, and the luxury of silence to sort through this nightmare. Perhaps I'd attempt another call to Sebastian, though I already knew it would join the growing collection of unanswered messages.
The elevator hummed its way to my floor, but when the doors parted, my breath caught in my throat.
Julian stood against the wall beside my door, shoulders hunched, hands buried deep in his jacket pockets. His gaze was fixed on the worn carpet beneath his feet, as if gathering courage for battle.
