Kaiden stepped forward.
"Selene belongs to my pack."
Lucien tilted his head.
"Interesting."
Then he glanced at me.
"Do you want to go?"
"No," I said immediately.
Kaiden's jaw tightened.
"You don't understand what you are."
"Neither do you," Lucien replied.
The two Alphas stared each other down.
Then Kaiden spoke quietly.
"If you keep her, it will start a war."
Lucien shrugged.
"Then start one."
Gasps rippled through the wolves.
I felt the energy in the air rising dangerously.
This could get everyone killed.
"Stop!" I said.
Both Alphas looked at me.
"I'm not property," I said firmly.
Silence.
Kaiden's voice softened slightly.
"Selene… come home."
For a split second, my heart hurt again.
But I remembered the ceremony.
The humiliation.
"I don't have a home," I said.
Kaiden flinched.
Lucien smirked.
"Well," he said.
"Looks like the lady decided."
Kaiden's eyes darkened.
"This isn't over."
