She rushed to pick it up and unzipped it to check inside, only to see that her laptop and documents hadn't been tampered with at all.
A massive wave of relief washed over her entire body, loosening the tight knot of anxiety in her chest.
She immediately opened the wardrobe and hid the bag inside before pulling on one of her plain white dresses. A split second later, a firm, respectful knock echoed from the heavy bedroom door.
"Madam, Master has ordered me to bring you downstairs for dinner," the butler's deep voice announced through the wood.
Evie pulled open the door and stepped out, finding the butler waiting patiently in the corridor. He offered a polite nod, stepping back to guide her down the wide hallway as they descended to the lower level together.
