Chapter 1 — The Execution That Should Have Been Final

The sky was red.

Not from fire.

Not from war.

But from the setting sun reflecting against the golden execution platform.

Kairus could hear the crowd screaming.

"Traitor!"

"Monster prince!"

"Kill him!"

The voices felt distant.

Like he was underwater.

Cold metal pressed against his wrists. Not chains — ceremonial restraints made of enchanted silver.

Silver that suppressed mana.

Kairus slowly opened his eyes.

He was kneeling.

The royal execution plaza of Arvantis Empire.

Thousands of citizens gathered below the platform. Nobles sat in floating golden seats protected by magic barriers.

Above him stood the royal execution knight.

And behind him…

The royal family.

His father, Emperor Darius Arvantis, watched without emotion.

Beside him, his older brothers smiled faintly.

Like they were watching a performance.

Kairus's breathing slowed.

Because he remembered everything.

The false accusation.

The poisoning attempt when he was twelve.

The time his training instructors deliberately weakened his magic control.

And most clearly…

The moment his own brother pushed him into the dungeon cells.

The knight spoke.

"Prince Kairus Arvantis. You are accused of treason, dark magic cultivation, and conspiracy against the throne."

Kairus didn't move.

He was remembering something else.

The sound of his own heartbeat slowing as the execution sword came down in his past life.

He should be dead already.

He remembered the pain.

The crowd shouting.

And then…

Darkness.

But now he was here again.

Three years younger.

Alive.

The knight frowned.

"Young prince. Do you have any last words?"

Silence.

Then Kairus laughed softly.

Not loudly.

Just quietly.

Which made the crowd uncomfortable.

He lifted his head slowly.

"Tell me something," Kairus said.

The knight narrowed his eyes.

"What is it, traitor?"

"How long until my eighteenth birthday?"

The knight was confused by the question.

But he answered anyway.

"Three years."

Kairus smiled.

Three years.

Enough time.

Because he remembered something else from his past life death.

The voice that spoke to him after his head fell.

[Soul Contract Recognized.]

[Ancient Fate Fragment Awakening.]

Suddenly.

Pain exploded inside his chest.

Not physical pain.

Something deeper.

Like something ancient was waking up inside his soul.

The sky above the execution plaza darkened slightly.

The nobles whispered.

"Did he just… activate mana?"

Impossible.

He was restrained by mana suppression silver.

But Kairus felt power moving inside him anyway.

Like cracks forming in a frozen ocean.

His vision changed.

Information appeared in front of him like glowing words burned into the air.

[System of Broken Fate Activated]

Host: Kairus Arvantis

Ability: Fate Devourer

Effect: You gain power by changing events that were destined to happen.

Kairus's eyes widened slightly.

Not a hero system.

Not a hero destiny.

Something worse.

Something darker.

He understood immediately.

If fate wanted him dead…

Then he would break fate itself.

The emperor spoke for the first time.

"End this quickly."

The execution knight raised his sword.

The blade shone with holy magic.

The crowd became silent.

Kairus closed his eyes.

In his past life, he died like a coward — begging, crying, trying to prove his innocence.

Not this time.

He opened his eyes again.

Cold.

Calm.

Predatory.

"Before you kill me," Kairus said slowly, "I want to tell you something, Father."

The emperor did not respond.

But he did not stop the execution either.

Kairus continued.

"You are afraid of me."

The crowd gasped.

Even his brothers' smiles disappeared slightly.

Kairus stood up slowly despite the restraints.

"You are afraid because the prophecy does not say I will betray the empire."

He paused.

Then smiled.

"It says I will destroy it."

The execution knight swung the sword downward.

The blade cut through the air—

But Kairus vanished.

Not teleportation.

Something stranger.

He appeared three meters away, breathing heavily.

Blood dripped from his palm.

He had forced his body to move using raw mana burst.

His status window flickered.

Mana Control: 2%

Physical Strength: Weak

Fate Points: 1

But Kairus was smiling wider now.

Because he realized something.

The stronger he changed destiny…

The stronger he would become.

He looked up at the empire.

At the nobles.

At the royal family.

At the empire that had decided his fate before he was even born.

"Three years," he whispered.

"I will use every day."

"To make you regret not killing me faster."

The emperor finally showed emotion.

Just slightly.

Annoyance.

"Execute him faster."

The knight charged forward again.

But Kairus was already thinking ahead.

Three years.

Not to survive.

But to become something worse than a prince.

Something the empire could not control.

Something that would rewrite destiny itself.
