Jack leaned against the console.
"So let me summarize our situation," he said. "Ancient cosmic writer waking up. Planet-sized prison failing. Mysterious outside reader editing reality. And now you might have to jump into the story like some kind of protagonist."
Dave sighed.
"When you say it like that it sounds bad."
"It is bad."
The System suddenly chimed.
A softer tone this time.

The chamber opened wide enough now that the shape of the Author could be seen clearly.
It looked like a massive figure composed of shifting script-like symbols and flowing energy, curled in a sleeping position at the heart of the structure.
Each pulse from it distorted reality slightly.

This time the strain was manageable.
