Nobody moved.
The glowing red words stretched across every flickering screen in the underground corridor like a threat.
SUBJECT ZERO HAS BEEN ACTIVATED.
Camille looked slowly toward Dante.
His face had gone completely still.
Too still.
Like whatever "Subject Zero" meant
it was bad.
Very bad.
Victor's voice crackled sharply through the speakers.
"Okay. I officially hate everything happening right now."
Elena stepped closer to one of the monitors.
"That project was destroyed."
Vivian smiled faintly.
"So everyone believed."
Dante's jaw tightened hard.
"You're lying."
Amusement flickered in Vivian's eyes.
"You know I'm not."
Camille's pulse quickened painfully.
"Can someone please explain what Subject Zero is?"
Silence.
The kind of silence that answered the question before anyone spoke.
Then finally
Dante looked at her.
And for the first time since she met him
he seemed uncertain.
"It was the first human synchronization experiment."
