Chapter 5 - ⭐Chapter 5 The Cultural Disaster

1. The Performance PlanningOne week later, preparations for the School Festival were in full motion.

Every class was assigned a performance.

The Planning Committee had to supervise rehearsals.

Kaito stood with a clipboard.

"Schedule compliance is currently at 62% efficiency."

Hina stood beside him holding a megaphone.

"PEOPLE! MORE PASSION! MORE DRAMA!"

Students whispered:

"They look like strict dad and chaotic mom."

Another replied:

"Power couple energy."

Hina turned bright red.

"STOP SAYING THAT!"

Kaito sighed quietly.

• 2. The Cultural Stage RehearsalOne class prepared a traditional dance performance.

The stage lights were being tested.

Decorations were still unstable.

Hina leaned too far over the stage edge while adjusting ribbons.

Kaito noticed immediately.

"Moriyama. Step back."

She waved him off.

"I'm fine—"

The platform shifted.

Her foot slipped.

Gasps filled the gym.

In one swift motion—

Kaito dropped his clipboard and ran forward.

He grabbed her waist before she fell.

The entire gym went silent.

They froze like that.

Her hands against his chest.

His arm around her waist.

Faces inches apart.

The lighting crew accidentally turned on the spotlight.

It looked like a confession scene.

Someone whispered loudly:

"They're rehearsing their own love story."

• 3. The Crowd ReactionThe silence lasted three seconds.

Then—

The entire gym erupted.

Cheers.

Whistles.

Clapping.

"JUST DATE ALREADY!"

Hina's face turned completely red.

Kaito slowly released her.

"You lack spatial awareness."

"You saved me!"

"To prevent injury."

"That's the second time!"

"Coincidence."

The cheering only grew louder.

Someone recorded the moment.

Within minutes—

It was online.

Caption:

"Festival Leaders Romantic Scene – Confirmed."

• 4. The Teasing StormLater in the hallway—

Students bowed dramatically as they passed.

"Good afternoon, power couple."

"Storage room sequel just dropped."

Hina covered her face with her hands.

"This is humiliating."

Kaito walked beside her calmly.

"I fail to see the strategic advantage of these rumors."

"That's because you have no emotional intelligence!"

He paused slightly.

"…Explain."

She stared at him.

"You don't just save someone like that."

"It was instinct."

She blinked.

"Instinct?"

He froze.

Why had he reacted so fast?

Why didn't he even think?

The question unsettled him.

• 5. The Jealousy IgnitesRyo Tanaka appeared again.

He leaned casually against the wall.

"Nice move earlier, Ice Boy."

Kaito remained silent.

Ryo turned to Hina.

"You okay? You should be more careful."

"I'm fine," she replied.

Ryo smiled gently.

"If he ever drops you, I'll catch you instead."

The hallway went quiet.

Hina laughed awkwardly.

But Kaito felt something sharp.

Unpleasant.

Unwanted.

Ryo walked away confidently.

Hina turned toward Kaito.

"You look annoyed."

"I am not."

"You snapped your pen again."

He looked down.

The pen in his hand was broken.

Again.

He said nothing.

But the emotion was clear.

It wasn't logic.

It wasn't irritation.

It was something deeper.

Something possessive.

And that frightened him.

• 6. The Quiet Rooftop MomentLater that afternoon—

Hina found Kaito alone on the rooftop.

He was staring at the sky.

"You're hiding," she said.

"I am thinking."

"About what?"

Silence.

Finally—

"You should be cautious around Tanaka."

She blinked.

"Why?"

"He is socially manipulative."

She crossed her arms slowly.

"Or… are you jealous?"

He turned sharply.

"I do not experience jealousy."

She stepped closer.

"Then why did you run so fast to catch me?"

He had no answer.

The wind moved between them.

For once—

Neither joked.

Neither argued.

The distance felt smaller.

But the tension felt heavier.

• 7. The Emotional Realization BeginsHina spoke softly.

"When you caught me… I felt safe."

That word lingered.

Safe.

Kaito's chest tightened slightly.

"I simply fulfilled my responsibility."

She shook her head gently.

"No. That wasn't responsibility."

She looked directly at him.

"That was care."

Silence filled the rooftop.

He looked away.

Care.

Was that what it was?

He had always believed emotions weakened judgment.

Yet—

His fastest decisions lately…

Had all involved her.

And none of them felt like mistakes.

• 8. Chapter Ending – A Dangerous ThoughtThat night—

The video of him catching her had over 2,000 views on the school page.

Comments flooded in:

"Best couple in school history."

"He literally ran like a romance anime hero."

"They're already in love."

Kaito stared at the screen.

He tried to deny it logically.

Tried to categorize it as coincidence.

But one thought kept returning:

If she had fallen—

Would he have been okay?

The answer was immediate.

No.

He closed his eyes.

For the first time—

He didn't dismiss the feeling.

He didn't label it inefficient.

He simply acknowledged it.

Something inside him had changed.

Not fully.

Not openly.

But undeniably.

Meanwhile—

Hina lay in bed smiling slightly.

"He looked scared when I almost fell…"

She hugged her pillow.

"He cares."

Outside—

The festival countdown continued.

And so did the rumor.

But now—

It wasn't just the school thinking they were in love.

It was starting to feel real.
