Chapter 7 - ) The First Clue

JAY'S POV:

That night, I couldn't sleep.

Keifer's stupid voice kept replaying in my head.

"You are cute when you are angry."

I groaned and buried my face in my pillow.

"Idiot," I muttered. "He is a murderer, not a model. Focus Jay."

But something…felt strange.

The way he acted…It didn't feel like someone hiding a crime. He is annoyingly confident for that.

Still.

I had to prove it.

The next day—

I went back to the station. The investigation board was still there.

Pictures. Notes. Strings connecting clues.

And then…I saw something new.

A small photo pinned on the board.

My heart skipped.

It was Keifer.

Standing outside a building.

The same night Keira died.

My stomach twisted.

"Got you," I whispered.

I quickly took the file connecte to the photo.

It said:

Location: Old warehouse 125

Time: 10.42pm

That was almost the exact time Keira died.

My chest burned with anger.

"I knew it."

"Talking to yourself now?"

I froze.

Slowly…I turned around.

Keifer. Standing right behind me.

My heart jumped.

"You!" I snapped.

He looked at the board. Then at the file in my hands.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"Where did you get that?"

I stepped closer to him. My anger exploded.

"You were there that night!" I shouted.

His expression didn't change.

"That doesn't mean anything."

"IT MEANS EVERYTHING!"

People in the station started looking at us. I didn't care.

"You were at the warehouse the same night Keira died!"

For a moment…he looked serious.

Then he sighed.

"TSS, You shouldn't be digging into things you don't understand."

I glared while my hands shook.

"Oh I understand perfectly."

I stepped even closer.

"You killed her."

Suddenly—

Keifer grabbed my wrist.

And pulled me.

Before I could react, my back hit the wall.

My breath caught. He wasn't hurting me.

But he was very close. Too close.

His arm placed beside my head on the wall.

Trapping me between him and the wall.

My heart started racing. "Let me go!" I snapped.

He leaned a little closer our lips inches apart.

"You still think I did it?"

"YES!"

Our eyes locked.

For a moment, neither of us moved.

Then he sighed softly. "Tss, you are stubborn."

I glared.

"And you are a murderer." I spat back.

He shook his head slightly.

"You have no idea what you are walking into, Jay."

My chest tightened. "What does that mean?"

But he stepped back. Letting me go. Just like that. He fixed his coat. Then looked at me one more time.

"If I were you," he said calmly, "I'd be more careful of the clue I trust."

Then he walked away. Leaving me confused. Angry. And somehow…even more determined.

Because now I was sure of one thing. Someone was lying. And I was going to find out who.
