After the meeting Emily returned to Alexander's office.
She felt exhausted.
"This is insane."
Alexander handed her a glass of water.
"Drink."
Emily sat down.
"Do you think Sophia did this?"
Alexander didn't answer immediately.
But his silence was enough.
Emily sighed.
"Why does she hate me so much?"
Alexander looked at her carefully.
"She doesn't hate you."
Emily frowned.
"Then what?"
Alexander's voice was quiet.
"She hates losing."
Emily leaned back in the chair.
"So I'm just a target."
Alexander shook his head.
"You're more than that now."
Emily looked at him.
"What does that mean?"
Alexander studied her expression.
Then he said slowly,
"You're important to this company."
Emily smiled slightly.
"That sounded almost emotional."
Alexander didn't respond.
But his eyes softened for a moment.
