Chapter 9 - The Curious Cat

Night returned to New York.

Bright city lights illuminated the streets while traffic continued endlessly below.

On the rooftop of a tall building, Felicia Hardy sat on the edge with her legs swinging lazily.

Her silver hair moved gently with the wind.

She stared at the empty space where Arata had disappeared earlier.

Then she sighed dramatically.

"Rude."

She leaned back on her hands.

"Vanishing in the middle of a conversation."

Felicia smiled slightly.

Instead of being annoyed, she actually felt more curious.

That mysterious man had abilities she had never seen before.

Shadows that moved like living creatures.

Instant disappearance.

And that strange aura that made her instincts react.

Felicia whispered softly to herself.

"You're definitely not normal, shadow boy."

Suddenly—

A voice answered from behind her.

"You figured that out already?"

Felicia instantly turned around.

There he was.

Arata stood casually near the rooftop door as if he had been there the entire time.

Felicia blinked once.

Then twice.

"Okay…"

She placed her hands on her hips.

"Now you're officially creeping me out."

Arata chuckled quietly.

"You were the one waiting here."

Felicia walked closer.

Her eyes studied him carefully.

"I had a feeling you'd come back."

She stopped only a step away.

Their height difference forced her to tilt her head slightly upward.

"So tell me…"

Her playful smile returned.

"Are you stalking me now?"

Arata raised an eyebrow.

"You're the one sitting on my rooftop."

Felicia laughed.

"Fair point."

For a moment, silence filled the air.

Felicia looked toward the city lights.

Then back at him.

"You know…"

She leaned closer again.

"Most people would be terrified if they saw what you did in that alley."

Arata shrugged.

"And you?"

Felicia's smile grew wider.

"I think it's exciting."

Arata chuckled softly.

'Definitely a troublemaker.'

Felicia suddenly reached out and poked his chest lightly.

"You're hiding something."

Her eyes narrowed playfully.

"And I love secrets."

Arata crossed his arms.

"Why?"

Felicia leaned back slightly.

Her expression became mischievous again.

"Because secrets usually mean adventure."

She pointed at him.

"And you definitely look like trouble."

Before Arata could reply—

His Demon Sense suddenly reacted.

A faint presence nearby.

Watching again.

Arata looked toward the next building.

High on another rooftop, a small reflection from binoculars briefly flashed under the moonlight.

Felicia noticed his gaze.

She followed his line of sight.

Then she smirked.

"Looks like you have fans."

Arata sighed slightly.

'SHIELD again.'

Felicia stepped closer and whispered teasingly.

"Friends of yours?"

Arata shook his head.

"Not exactly."

Felicia laughed quietly.

"Well then…"

She stretched her arms lazily.

"Looks like your night just got more interesting."

Arata looked back toward the distant rooftop.

His red eyes glowed faintly in the darkness.

'They're getting too curious.'

The shadows around him slowly began to move again.

Felicia watched carefully.

Her eyes sparkled with excitement.

"Oh good."

She stepped back with a grin.

"Something fun is about to happen."

And somewhere across the street…

A SHIELD agent whispered into his communicator.

"Target located."

The game was getting bigger.

And everyone was slowly being pulled into it.
