Raven's footsteps faded down the hallway.
Fast.
Broken.
Gone.
And the silence she left behind didn't last.
"What is wrong with you!"
Claire's voice cut through the room like a blade.
Everyone turned.
Even the maid froze completely.
Cyprian stood exactly where Raven had left him.
Still.
Controlled.
His expression unreadable, like nothing had just shattered in front of him.
Claire stepped forward, her voice shaking now...but not with fear.
With anger.
"She is pregnant!" she snapped.
That landed.
Not emotionally.
But physically.
The room felt it.
Claire didn't stop.
"High-risk pregnancy," she continued sharply. "The doctor said no stress, no emotional shock, no pressure!"
Her hand shook as she pointed toward the hallway Raven had disappeared into.
"And you just gave her all of it in one moment!"
Silence.
Heavy.
Pressing.
Cyprian finally turned his head slightly toward her.
Not fully.
Just enough to acknowledge her existence.
That alone made Claire's chest tighten.
"You think this is nothing?" she asked, voice rising again. "You think you can just say things, cut her open emotionally, and stand there like it doesn't matter?"
Still no response.
Claire laughed bitterly.
"Of course," she whispered. "Because nothing ever touches you."
That hit harder than she expected.
Her breathing became uneven.
"You didn't protect her," she said more quietly now, voice breaking slightly. "You're supposed to be keeping her safe."
A pause.
Then…
"If anything happens to her," Claire said firmly, stepping closer again, "or that baby… it's on you."
That time, something shifted.
Not his expression.
But the air around him.
Stillness sharpened.
Danger quieted.
Controlled.
Claire felt it…but didn't step back.
"I don't know what you think marriage is," she said, voice trembling, "but this… this is not protection."
A pause.
"This is pressure."
Silence followed.
Claire swallowed hard.
"I'm going to her."
And she turned and walked out.
Cyprian didn't stop her.
Didn't speak.
But his jaw tightened slightly.
Not anger.
Something deeper.
Contained.
Raven was on the floor when Claire found her.
Curled slightly against the wall.
Breathing uneven.
Hand pressed tightly against her stomach.
Not dramatic.
Not loud.
Just breaking quietly.
Claire rushed to her immediately.
"Raven…"
Raven shook her head without looking up.
"I shouldn't have spoken," she whispered.
Claire knelt beside her.
"No," she said firmly. "You should have."
Raven's voice cracked.
"I feel like I made everything worse."
Claire hesitated.
Then shook her head.
"It was already worse," she said softly.
Before she could continue, the sound outside changed.
Engines.
Multiple.
Too heavy.
Too structured.
Security voices rose sharply from the gate.
"Unauthorized arrival…repeat, unauthorized arrival…!"
Claire froze.
Raven didn't move.
But the air inside the estate changed instantly.
Something had shifted outside.
Claire slowly stood.
"What now…" she whispered.
Slow footsteps echoed in the hallway.
Measured.
Familiar.
Cyprian.
Claire stiffened slightly.
Raven slowly lifted her eyes.
The door opened.
Cyprian stood there.
Calm.
Too calm.
His gaze moved past Claire.
Then landed on Raven.
And he said quietly:
"Bring her back to the room."
Silence dropped instantly.
Claire's body went still.
Because that wasn't emotion.
That was authority.
Control.
And something worse underneath it.
Final certainty.
Raven didn't move.
Claire didn't either.
And for the first time…
it didn't feel like anyone was safe in that house anymore.
Before Claire could respond, a sharp voice cut in from Cyprian's earpiece.
Distorted.
Urgent.
"Sir… the vehicles are at the main gate. They are refusing protocol checks."
Cyprian's eyes narrowed slightly.
He didn't take his gaze off Raven.
"Who are they?" Claire asked quickly.
No answer came immediately.
Another voice outside barked orders.
Then…
The gates opened.
Slowly.
Against protocol.
The engines shut off one by one.
And silence dropped outside.
Too clean.
Too intentional.
Cyprian finally turned.
"Stay with her," he said flatly to Claire.
Claire frowned.
"Where are you going?"
But he was already moving.
"Cyprian!"
He didn't answer.
Only footsteps.
Hard.
Controlled.
Heading toward the entrance.
The night air was tense.
Security lined both sides of the driveway.
Every movement calculated.
Cyprian stepped out.
And stopped.
Because three cars had already fully entered.
Black.
Expensive.
Unmarked.
But not unfamiliar energy.
Something about it…
belonged.
The first door opened.
A man stepped out.
Then a woman.
Both composed.
Both unreadable.
Cyprian's expression tightened slightly.
Not fear.
Recognition without context.
The security shifted behind him.
"Sir… they said they are expected."
Cyprian didn't respond.
His eyes stayed locked on them.
The woman stepped forward slightly.
Unbothered.
Unannounced.
The man followed slowly behind her.
And Cyprian's voice finally broke the silence.
Controlled.
Low.
"…Dad?"
A pause.
The woman stepped fully into view.
And for the first time…
Cyprian's jaw tightened harder.
"…Mom?"
Silence dropped instantly.
Not confusion.
Not suspicion.
Confirmation.
Cyprian took a slow step forward.
His voice dropped.
Cold.
Controlled.
"What is this?"
The man didn't answer immediately.
The woman's eyes stayed fixed on him.
Then…
Cyprian exhaled slightly.
"…What are you doing here?"
And the wind shifted.
The security behind him froze.
Inside the estate, Claire was still with Raven…completely unaware of who had arrived.
And Cyprian, standing between his parents and his home, repeated slowly…
"…Dad? Mom?"
But this time…
his voice wasn't confusion anymore.
It was warning.
