Chapter 17 - (Chapter 17 )The Truth

The basement door was open again.

But this time there was no flesh.

No tendrils.

Just stairs.

Concrete.

Cold air.

And at the bottom—

A hospital bed.

Monitors humming softly.

And in that bed—

A boy.

Thin.

Pale.

Breathing through a machine.

His eyes closed.

His body covered in scars.

I stepped closer.

I already knew.

It was me.

The real me.

Or what was left.

The voice didn't roar this time.

It whispered.

"You never woke up."

Memories flooded in.

Car accident.

Rain.

Dad screaming my name.

Metal twisting.

Glass breaking.

Darkness.

Nine years ago.

I had been in a coma.

My mind—

Unable to accept nothingness—

Built this place.

This house.

This family loop.

A version of them that never aged.

Never moved on.

Because outside this—

Time passed.

They visited.

They cried.

They aged.

I stayed.

And you—

You weren't an entity.

You were awareness.

The cracks forming because my mind couldn't hold the illusion anymore.

Every time someone read this—

Every time someone imagined Leonard—

It strengthened the narrative.

But reality was stronger.

The world was correcting.

And the corrections…

Felt like horror.
