Chapter 65 - Chapter 65

The argument fades by the time we reach the beach.

Luca parks near the sand where the shoreline stretches endlessly under the fading sunlight.

The sky glows deep orange and gold. With slight shadesof pink seeping in.

Neither of us gets out of the car right away.

"You shouldn't fight people because of me," I say quietly.

He leans back in his seat like he hasn't a care in the world.

"I'd fight people for less." He says casually.

"That is not funny."

"I'm not joking."

I sigh.

"You make things complicated."

"I warned you about that."

"Yes, you did."

The wind rattles softly against the car. Faint whistles whisping past.

"Are you still mad?" he asks.

"A little."

"I guess that's fair."

"But…" I say slowly.

"But what?" He almost jumped with hope at that.

"I kind of like that you care."

His eyebrows lift.

"That was a risky admission."

"Don't make me regret it."

He smiles faintly.

"I'll try not to."

I open the door and step onto the sand.

The cool air hits my face.

A second later Luca joins me.

We walk toward the water in silence.

Then his hand finds mine.

And this time - I don't hesitate.
