It was impossible not to hear the commotion downstairs.
Even from my room on the upper floor of the Alpha building, the noise carried clearly through the halls. Raised voices, hurried footsteps, doors slamming open and shut—it all echoed loudly enough to make my nerves tighten.
Only moments earlier, I had been pacing anxiously around my room, worrying about Alpha Axel's return from the hunt. He had left earlier with several warriors, and ever since then I'd been unable to settle down.
Every little sound had made me restless.
But this—
This was different.
At first, I tried to ignore it.
The pack house was rarely quiet to begin with, and I told myself it was probably nothing important. Still, the panic in the voices downstairs kept growing louder, more frantic, until I couldn't ignore it anymore.
Something was wrong.
I frowned and moved toward the door, hesitating briefly before pulling it open.
The first thing that surprised me was the empty hallway.
