It is a rainy day, the wind is blowing hard. A soldier is chasing a boy, he is panting. The soldier almost catches up but before he's able to grab him, the boy takes a quick turn between 2 houses. The road is a narrow passage, only 2 people could fit if they go side by side. The soldier follows.
There are 4 people there. One sitting on a small barrel on the right and a little further another is on the ground on the left, sitting. Beside the person sitting in the ground, 2 people are standing face to face, talking.
"You see any boy running through here?" The soldier asks them. They are all silent. He goes up to the man in the barrel, brings his lantern close to the man's face.
"I asked, you see any boy coming through here?" The man just stares at him and stands up. He is big, perhaps 7 feet or close to it. The soldier is little frightened.
"No one pass through here." The man sitting on the floor reply. The soldier try to question them further but after looking at everybody carefully, a sweat fell down from his head amongst the rain drops and go away.
"Kid, you can come out now." The man in the floor call out. The kid comes out of the barrel. The man sitting on the ground stands up, he is wearing an eye patch in his right eye. He asks him why the soldier was chasing him but he doesn't answer. "Well, since we saved you, stay with us for a while, you have nowhere else to go ain't you?" The eyepatch man say.
Just then, another man comes into the passage from the right side. He tells everybody they can go now and he sees the kid. He question others who he is, after getting the answer, he shrugs off and gestures them to go.
There is a horse carriage and everybody is climbing up. It is pulled by 4 horses. The carriage is not so small, not so big either. It mostly looks like a stolen a wagon from a village. The top cover has some holes where water is leaking. The wheels are all wooden except for the back right which is metal. There is a broken brake lever in the side. Inside, there are 2 flat wooden seat fitting 2 person each, it is lifted above the ground by some makeshift chains and rope.There are lots of full sacks below the two seat.
The big guy starts driving the horses. The other 4 take a seat and the man who newly arrived takes out a small sack full of money and started distributing while talking. The boy is tired, he can barely hear what are they saying. He just lies in the back side of the carriage and falls asleep.
When the boy wakes up, the sun was already out. He looks around, there is the eyepatch man riding a horse in the back of their carriage. The big man is still in the coach box.
"Kid, awake eh? Come on, seat there." He rattles. The kid sits across the man. Another man is sleeping besides the man while sitting upright. "Name?" The man asks. "Uhh, my name's Malark, you people?
"Call me Boss as I'm the Boss." He continue quickly."Beside me is Magician, driver is Big Guy, behind us is Eyepatch and that man in the front is Eagle Eye. We don't call ourselves with any name, just those." He looks outside the front of the carriage, there is another man riding a horse that he missed earlier.
"Where are we going?" Malark asks. "In the kingdom of Aurelion." Boss replies. "For what?" He ask again. "Maybe search some money." The carriage suddenly stops."Let's eat some foods." Eagle eye screams. They all come down. Big guy is parking the carriage, Boss just sleep under some shade, Eagle eye is climbing some tree, Eyepatch calls out to Malark to bring some foods and vessel from under the carriage. Malark doesn't know what to bring so he bring all the sacks he can handle as much as possible. Eyepatch slaps his head and say," You don't need to bring it all, stupid." And both of them are busy making breakfast for the team. Malark does mostly the work while Eyepatch just command him what to do. While they are still busy with the breakfast. Eagle eye scream," 5 wagons are coming this way !" Boss get up and look at the wagons. "Okay, Big Guy stay in the front, Eagle stay there, Magician go from the back. I'll take the right side and Eyepatch will take the left side. Just act however. Remember, to retreat if they're being protected by an adventurers."
They all get ready to ambush. Malark stays with Eyepatch. Eyepatch give Malark a dagger. The wagons go in a steady speed. If even some of them look up, they can spot Eagle from afar but none of them did. They keep getting closer and closer. When they're in Eagle bow range, he nods to Big Guy. Big Guy comes out from a bush with a longsword. The entire wagons stop. All the other members also come out from their position.
The man who was in the first wagon, driving, is an old man, possibly 70-80 years of age. He looks around panicking, he then whips his horse with an intention of running over a big guy who was in front of him. Big Guy was in a position to either slash or jump in the sideway. The horses only run for a few steps, even before reaching close to the man, his horse in the left was shot by an arrow in the head, dead, the other horse falls alongside the death horse. The wagon falls in sideway.
The other people from the back was too shock even to move. It's dead silent. Only the fallen horse shriek can be heared. "If you all want to see tomorrow, give me all your valuables!" He screams in an aggressive tone at the crowd. "Are you all deaf? Get down, get down." Eyepatch continues while kicking the third wagon. They all get down slowly, shivering, their eyes show fear. They also the check the first wagon, the old man is still alive.
They bring all the people together in one place. The first wagon consists of only the old man. The second wagon has 5 people, a paid driver, a father in his 50s, 2 daughters and a wife who is also same age as the father. The third wagon have 2 people, a man in his 20s and an old woman in her 70s. The fourth wagon consist of a mother in her 20s, a little boy and a baby. The last wagon has only 1 man in his mid 20s.
Magician and Big Guy guard the people. Eagle is still in the tree, looking around. The others are rummaging through the wagons. They take all kinds of materials, utensils, knives, gold coins, beautiful clothes, all kinds of jewelry and more.
The old man from the first wagon glares at Magician while he walks past him and says,"Bandit scums!" And spits at his foot. Magician stops and goes back, he looks at the old man thoroughly. He snaps his finger and a small fire comes out of his finger and says," Do you wanna burn to death?" He says to the old man with a straight answer. "If I was still young, I would already cut off all your heads." The old man says. Magician looks at his outfit and see a shining object in his pocket, he forcefully takes it out and it is an iron totem. It is a thumb size. The totem indicates it is from Zeno Rangers guild. A middle rank adventurer guild. "Oh, a retired adventurer? Boss! We have a retired adventurer, check his wagon, there might be more valuables than any others." "Ok!" Boss replies, "Boy, go and check it out."
Malark hesitates to go inside but he forces himself in. It is cramped as it has fallen. He looks around, nothing out of ordinary than all the other wagons, but he finds a trapdoor in the wooden floor. He opens it and finds a golden vase that have a lid, he opens it and it is full of blood. He slowly take it out and screams, "I found something!" He shows it to Boss. Boss investigates it but he don't know what it is. He knows that the golden vase is valuable but he don't know what is the blood for. He signals Magician to bring the old man. Magician takes the old man with him.
He questions what the blood is for but the old man doesn't reply. He takes a dagger in his left hand and pokes it against his stomach. He tells him, "Answer me before i stab you." The old man is still silent. Boss from his right hand which is in the back side takes out a dagger and stabs his right eye. "Hold motherfucker! Stop moving!" He screams at the old man. He plucks out his eye. The old man let out an agonizing scream. He falls backward with both his hands touching the ground. Boss holds his right eye and reach out his hand, "Eat it." The old man cries, "Please stop. I'll tell everything." "No, you are too late. We'll just pour out the blood and sell the vase. Now, Eat!" He shout back. The old man just looks at him shakingly. Boss says, "What is it? You wanna eat both your eyes?"
The old man slowly brings out his hand but even before reaching half the distance he pulls it back. Boss cannot wait anymore, he forces open his mouth and put in the eye. "If you spit it out, you'll eat the other eye, now chew and swallow it." The old man is still shaking, slowly chews his eye while crying. Boss starts laughing like a comedian just crack a funny joke and the crowds are laughing. Eyepatch joins in on the laugh and say, "Don't worry old man, just buy an eyepatch like me and you'll be called Eyepatch 2." He continues laughing. The old man after a long chew, probably the longest thing he ever chewed in his life that lasts for 2 minutes straight finally swallow it, he slowly looks up. Boss say, "It's pointless for a dead man to wear an eyepatch." And stab his head. The old man falls dead to the ground.
The crowds were disgusted, women scream, the children are crying and vomiting, the men are scared. Boss says, "We finish looting the wagons, now search the people." Everybody goes up to them except for Eagle, Boss and Magician who look from afar. Malark stuffs his hands inside the people's pockets and take their accessories.
Big Guy looks around and see a girl in her 20s. He grabs her face with his fingers and keeps looking at her cheek and her body. He takes his fingers back and suddenly grabs her by the waist and lift her in his shoulder. The father pleaded to release her, the girl's sister grabs her by her skirt and keep pulling. Big Guy kicks the father while facing backward like a donkey. He force through the sister's pull which tear some of her skirt, the sister tries to follow but was stopped by Eyepatch. Malark stares at them as they disappear into the forest.
It took a while but they finally finish collecting everything. Malark was loading the valuables into their wagon and suddenly he hears screams in terror. Malark makes a sudden turn and looks at them. He froze in fear of what he sees, he is disgusted, he can't believe he is a part of that deed. The back side where the crowd were standing was burning, not fully wall like flame but too hot to walk even near it. From the front Boss and Eyepatch were cutting and stabbing them off one by one. Whoever manages to escape their onslaught is shot by Eagle from the tree. He mostly hit them in the back and legs. It took a while to finish the people. Malark looks at the massacre the whole time.
They finally finish. They clean their swords, retrieve some arrows and ready to go back. While Boss is writing down the valuables they found. Malark walks over to the dead bodies. He looks around, not sure why he even walked there and even what he's looking for. Eagle Eye spots him and calls him to come back. He ignores and keeps looking around, he knows that they won't be going out soon and Big Guy hasn't come back. The place is full of blood. The fire has already gone out. Around five people burned and many were pierced by swords and arrows. There are also guts hanging out from one of the body. He hears some crawling and sucking sounds. When he walks towards the sound, he sees a baby, the baby is sucking her mother's chest. The mother is already dead, there is a stab wound in her stomach, blood is leaking out from it. Malark just stands there and watches. Eagle Eye keeps looking at him and when he realizes that he's not trying to come back anytime soon, he walks towards Malark and grabs him. He finally see what Malark was looking at all this time. He ask, "Pity the baby?" to which Malark answers, "Yes." Eagle Eye then say to him, "You shouldn't." "Why?" Malark asks. Eagle Eye sighs and looks at Malark, after some time he says, "Let me tell you about my father. My father and his army once pillaged a village during the war between the kingdom of Thornreach and the Empire. He killed a man that was witnessed by his child. Many years later, after my father retired. He was tracked by the boy who had already grown, he finally tracked my father down and killed right in front of everybody during his daughter's wedding. My sister. The wedding was unfortunately cancelled. We were able to catch him, sent him to jail and executed him the next week but my sister is not the same ever since and even after years she can't think of marriage without that horrible incident. She stayed in her room all by herself. Never left a person alive to witness the death of their family." While talking, Eagle Eye has a casual and normal expression the whole time. As he finishes talking he goes over with a knife. Malark says, "That was a boy, this is a baby, he won't remember." To which Eagle Eye says, "Doesn't matter, he will come back, besides I'm just ending his suffering faster." Right as he walks close to the baby. he slips on the mother's blood and falls down. Some of his silver clothes got torn, he stands up and stabs at the baby's head, he takes out his knife, clean it and walks away while telling Malark to call Big Guy.
Malark while walking slowly towards the path where Big Guy disappeared, he can't stop thinking about how a man can kill a baby without any remorse. He thought of going to another path that doesn't involve them but he's scared that the moment he talks about that they will kill him thinking he tried to go to the government. While he is still thinking about the whole incident, from one of the bush Big Guy suddenly come out. Malark get startled, he looks up and tells him it's time to go back. While saying this he notices Big Guy is smiling widely. A creepy smile. His smile is wider than an average person and his teeth are showing, there is some gap between his upper and lower teeth from his smile. Malark feels uneasy, he questions how a person even if he is abnormally large can let out a creepy smile like that. Big Guy then walks toward their wagon. Malark curious, goes to the bush where he came from. After a short walk he sees a dead woman, naked, with a slit in her throat. The blood was already dry, he walks closer and touches her body, the body is cold. He feels little fear at first. Then he walks back. While walking he question how long the woman have been dead to be that cold and the blood already dry, and what Big Guy was doing while she's dead.
He finally reachea the wagon and Boss is shouting, "Big, you took longer than last time. Next time, don't wait. Kill and do it. Don't wait for it to go cold otherwise we'll leave you next time." Malark just silently goes inside the wagon and takes a seat. After a short period of time, they set out. Big Guy drives the wagon and still put out the weird smile. Boss is riding a horse in front of the wagon. Eyepatch in the back. Magician sleeps right in front of him. Eagle Eye's sitting beside him.
Malark looks at him and says, "Eagle, did you become numb to killing because of the incident? Your dad passing?" Eagle Eye in a blank expression, "No, three years later after the incident. Me and my sister got into a heated debate and i accidentally killed her. I ran away and Boss found me along with Magician and three more outlaws. One year into this life, I was tracked down by some mercenaries who was hired by my relatives and some of my sister's friends. They managed to kill the 3 other outlaw and gave Boss a scar below his armpit. We capture two of my sister's friends and one of my cousins. The mercenaries were already killed. After some talking, i executed them one by one. I didn't hesitate. It was then I realize that every death that has happened or will happen to my colleagues or whom I consider friends, shouldn't be taken personally. It was because of revenge I no longer have relatives. So every kill should be taken lightly."
Malark looks down and then looks outside. He think what he has gotten himself into. He knows that he is not going to like what they're gonna do next time.
