Chapter 1 - Prologue – This Isn't Right

It was a lazy day like any other.

As usual, I booted up my computer, zoned out while surfing the web, and then suddenly snapped back to reality. Staring at a screen all day makes my brain feel like it's rotting.

I thought about playing a game, but I've played so many that I wasn't in the mood. In the end, I did what I always do—logged into a forum and wrote a pointless post.

My favorite game, "Danganronpa," is a mystery series where high-schoolers are trapped somewhere and forced into a killing game. It's pretty popular.

The series was even big enough to get an anime, but we've gone four years without a sequel, and the fans are losing their minds.

It's gotten so bad that, instead of the nonexistent sequel, people make their own fangames and share them. I usually hate derivative works, but I love Danganronpa so much that, tired of waiting, I played those doujin games and actually enjoyed them—says it all, really.

"Damn it… why won't they release a new one? If they dropped a sequel, the fans would literally print money for them!"

The lack of a new game is infuriating, but I'm just an unemployed bum living off my parents; no amount of whining from me will change anything.

I was about to give up and look for another fun game when a notification pinged from the anonymous board. Wait, did I even turn notifications on…?

Team Danganronpa: Do you want to play the new Danganronpa that badly?

The moment I saw that reply, a chill ran down my spine. Every username on this board is forced into "Anonymous No. X," so how does someone have a unique handle like that?

And that suspiciously ominous comment—every bit of it set my nerves on edge.

"Isn't this exactly what happens in those web novels…?"

You bad-mouth an author for abandoning a series or trash a game on a forum, then a weird comment or pop-up appears and you're whisked off to another world—it's a total cliché!

Normal people might not think about it, but after more than ten years steeped in anime and web novels, I understood the gravity of the situation better than anyone. Naturally, I had a countermeasure ready.

"Like hell you are!!!"

I hurriedly powered off my phone and dove under the covers. The instant you respond to that sort of comment, you get isekai'd. Therefore, if you show absolute indifference, the odds of being transported drop dramatically.

Besides, the safest place in my room is under the blanket. As long as I'm in here, no ghost, monster, or villain can lay a finger on me.

Having secured my safety beneath the comforter, I felt a sudden wave of drowsiness and closed my eyes… great, another cliché…

"Shit."

When I opened my eyes again, I was in the world of Danganronpa.

"Goddamn it."
