Chapter 30 - The Proposal

Six months later, Adrian Thorne was declared fully recovered.

The treatment had worked beyond expectations—his heart was stronger than it had been in years, his prognosis excellent, his energy boundless. He celebrated by doing what he'd wanted to do since the night they met.

"Nancy Clark," he said, kneeling in the middle of Thorne Enterprises' rooftop garden, the city spread beneath them, "you have spent three years proving Nancy looked at him—this impossible man who'd learned to share power, to trust, to love without possession. She thought of their journey: the interview, the scandal, the separation, the reunion. All the pain and growth and hope.

"Yes," she said simply. Then, because she couldn't resist: "But I keep Clark Capital. Separate from Thorne Enterprises. My own empire, my own identity."

Adrian laughed, delighted. "Of course. I wouldn't have it any other way." He slipped the ring on her finger, stood, kissed her thoroughly. "Partners?"

"Partners," Nancy agreed. "In business, in life, in everything."

They celebrated with champagne, with dancing, with plans for a future that suddenly seemed wide open. And as the sun set over Manhattan, painting the sky in colors of gold and rose, Nancy Clark—soon to be Thorne, but always herself—knew she'd finally found what she'd been seeking.

Not rescue. Not protection. But partnership. Equality. Love that amplified rather than diminished.

The tyrant had become her partner. And she had become his equal.

Together, they would build something extraordinary.
