Prologue — The Curse of the Alpha
The moon was red the night Kael Draven became Alpha.
Blood stained the snow beneath his feet as the cold wind howled through the forest. Around him, the bodies of fallen wolves lay scattered across the clearing—warriors who had challenged him for the Alpha title.
None of them survived.
At just twenty-three, Kael Draven had defeated every opponent who stood in his path. When the former Alpha collapsed in the snow, the forest fell silent.
Then it happened.
Kael felt something ancient awaken inside him.
Power surged through his veins like wildfire, burning through every nerve in his body. His heart pounded as the Alpha bond snapped into place, connecting him to every wolf in the Blackridge Pack.
They all felt it.
Their new leader had risen.
But power like that never came without a price.
The full moon climbed higher into the night sky.
Kael's body suddenly trembled as the shift began.
Bones cracked.
Muscles twisted.
A deep growl tore from his throat as his wolf burst free.
But this wolf was different.
Larger.
Stronger.
Darker.
His fur was black as the night itself, and his eyes glowed with a haunting silver light that pierced through the darkness.
The pack stepped back in fear.
Even the elders looked uneasy.
They had seen powerful Alphas before… but never anything like this.
One of the oldest elders whispered the word that would follow Kael for the rest of his life.
"Shadow."
Because wolves like Kael didn't just rule packs.
They ruled darkness.
That night, the elders spoke of an old prophecy.
A prophecy few wolves believed anymore.
"The Shadow Alpha will rise," the elder said quietly, staring at Kael's glowing eyes.
"And when he does… only one soul will be able to calm the darkness within him."
The wolves waited.
The elder continued.
"A mate born under the silver moon."
Kael scoffed at the prophecy.
He didn't believe in fate.
Didn't believe in destiny.
And he definitely didn't believe some mysterious mate would suddenly appear to tame the monster inside him.
Years passed.
Enemies came and went.
Kael became the most feared Alpha in the region.
Cold.
Ruthless.
