Chapter 35 - The Dominion of Steel

The frost had melted, but the scars of Han Zhi's assault lingered. Survivors rebuilt, crops were replanted, and rivers flowed again. Yet scouts returned with grim tidings: another rival candidate was on the move.

The system chimed:

[Stage Four Directive: Dominion Clash Initiated]

- Rival Candidate: Zhao Ren, Steel Dominion

- Objective: Defend alliance territory

- Warning: Armored armies incoming

---

At dawn, the ground trembled with the rhythm of marching boots. Survivors froze as the horizon shimmered with steel. Zhao Ren appeared at the head of his army, clad in armor that gleamed like iron walls. His warriors moved in perfect formation, their blades forged of steel, their shields unbreakable.

The system chimed:

[Rival Candidate Detected: Zhao Ren, Steel Dominion]

- Status: Hostile

- Ability: Absolute Steel

Zhao Ren's voice carried across the battlefield. "Thunder cracks, shadows fade. Steel endures. I will ascend."

---

The Steel Dominion struck, armored warriors smashing through barricades, shields deflecting arrows, blades cutting through defenses. Survivors screamed as towers crumbled, walls shattered, and militias faltered.

Sun Jun unleashed lightning, bolts crackling across the battlefield. Mei Xian cloaked warriors in shadow, striking from unseen angles. But Zhao Ren's steel absorbed their powers, deflecting sparks, shattering shadows.

"He nullifies us," Mei Xian whispered. "We must strike together."

Sun Jun nodded grimly. "Then let thunder and shadow unite."

---

They clasped hands, sparks and shadows intertwining. The system chimed:

[Thunder-Shadow Fusion Ability Activated]

- Form: Nova Storm

- Effect: Amplified unity strike

Lightning surged through shadows, shadows cloaked thunder. Their powers merged, cascading across the battlefield. Steel cracked, shields shattered, Zhao Ren staggered.

But the Steel Dominion roared, his army pressing forward, his armor regenerating.

---

Hours passed, the battle growing worse. Steel consumed barricades, warriors crushed defenses, healers struggled against wounds. Survivors faltered, exhaustion setting in.

Lin Yue darted through chaos, her traps detonating, armored foes falling. Yu Lan's blade flashed, Li Feng's soldiers fought with discipline.

Sun Jun and Mei Xian unleashed fusion strikes again and again, each blow shaking Zhao Ren, each strike proving unity's strength.

---

Zhao Ren roared, steel blazing across his body. He charged, striking at Sun Jun and Mei Xian. Steel clashed with thunder and shadow, the battlefield shaking with power.

Sun Jun's lightning split the sky, Mei Xian's shadows swallowed steel, Zhao Ren's armor consumed all it touched. The duel raged, each strike echoing across the battlefield.

Finally, Sun Jun gathered his power, sparks blazing across his body. Mei Xian's shadows wrapped around him, amplifying his storm. Together, they unleashed Thunder-Shadow Nova, amplified by unity.

Lightning and shadow cascaded across the battlefield, engulfing Zhao Ren. He shrieked, steel faltering, his army scattering.

"This isn't over!" he roared, retreating into the horizon. "Steel endures. I will ascend!"

---

Silence fell. Survivors stood, exhausted but alive. Steel shattered, walls held, fields endured. Mei Xian's people cheered, Sun Jun's warriors raised blades, children wept with relief.

The system chimed:

[Objective Complete: Steel Dominion Repelled]

[Reward: Thunder Ability Lv.15, Shadow Ability Lv.12]

[Evaluation: Unity Approved—Higher Beings observing]

Sun Jun stood beside Mei Xian, sparks flickering faintly. "We proved unity," he said softly.

Mei Xian nodded. "But Zhao Ren will return. Stronger. And others will come."

Lin Yue joined them, her eyes steady. "Then we'll be ready. Together."

---

That night, Sun Jun stood on the rooftop, lightning illuminating the horizon. Mei Xian joined him, shadows flickering faintly.

"They're watching," she said softly.

Sun Jun nodded. "Then let them watch. We will not break. Steel or frost, we will rise. Humanity will rise."

Thunder rumbled in the distance, echoing his resolve. The storm was far from over—but now, it had faced the Steel Dominion and endured.
