Chapter 9 - The Scene That Stunned the Set

The battlefield remained quiet for several seconds after the director called a cut.

Dust still floated lazily in the air.

Extras stood frozen in their positions.

Even the camera operators hesitated before lowering their equipment.

Moments like this were rare during filming.

Usually, the director would immediately shout corrections.

Adjustments.

Retakes.

But this time—

The entire crew simply looked toward the young actor sitting in the dirt.

Jin Taoran.

His armor was smeared with fake blood and dust.

His chest rose slowly as he recovered from the intensity of the scene.

For a brief moment, he had forgotten where he was.

The battlefield in his mind had felt too real.

The system interface flickered faintly.

---

Emotional Synchronization: 91%

Performance Evaluation: Outstanding

---

Jin Taoran blinked softly.

Ninety-one percent.

It was the highest synchronization he had achieved so far.

He slowly pushed himself up from the ground.

Nearby, Chen Yiming—the actor playing the prince—was still staring at him.

His expression looked stunned.

"Are you… okay?" Chen Yiming asked quietly.

Jin Taoran nodded.

"I'm fine."

But Chen Yiming shook his head slightly.

"That scene…"

He hesitated.

"For a moment I forgot we were acting."

Jin Taoran smiled faintly.

"That's a good thing."

Because if the prince felt the emotion naturally, the audience would too.

The director approached them again.

His eyes were still bright with excitement.

"Let's review the playback."

Everyone gathered around the monitor tent.

Actors.

Camera operators.

Makeup artists.

Even a few extras lingered nearby.

When a performance felt special, people naturally wanted to see it again.

The assistant director played the footage.

The screen lit up.

The battlefield appeared once more.

Smoke rolled across the ground.

Soldiers ran in chaotic patterns.

Then the camera focused on Liang Wei.

Jin Taoran.

He moved across the battlefield with controlled urgency.

Every step carried weight.

Every glance carried tension.

The moment the invisible arrow struck—

His body reacted naturally.

No exaggerated movements.

No theatrical shouting.

Just the quiet shock of someone who realized they had been fatally wounded.

Several crew members murmured quietly.

The director pointed at the screen.

"Watch his eyes."

The camera zoomed in slightly.

At that moment, Jin Taoran's gaze shifted toward the prince.

The emotion changed.

Pain faded.

Loyalty remained.

The final smile appeared.

Small.

Exhausted.

But sincere.

"Please… live…"

The last words left his lips softly.

Then he collapsed.

The playback ended.

Silence filled the tent.

The assistant director spoke first.

"That's… very clean."

The director nodded slowly.

"Exactly."

Clean.

That was the best way to describe the performance.

Nothing felt forced.

Nothing felt unnecessary.

The emotion flowed naturally from beginning to end.

One of the producers scratched his chin thoughtfully.

"Are we really keeping this as a single take?"

The director turned toward him.

"Why wouldn't we?"

The producer shrugged.

"We could try a few more angles."

The director shook his head immediately.

"No."

His voice was firm.

"If we try to repeat it, we'll lose the authenticity."

He looked back at Jin Taoran.

"Moments like this don't always happen twice."

Jin Taoran felt slightly surprised.

He had expected multiple retakes.

But the director seemed completely satisfied.

The assistant director nodded in agreement.

"He's right."

Then he smiled at Jin Taoran.

"Congratulations."

---

Filming continued for the rest of the afternoon.

Jin Taoran had two additional scenes.

One showing Liang Wei fighting alongside the prince earlier in the battle.

Another showing him briefly speaking with the other soldiers before the war began.

They were shorter scenes.

Less emotional.

But still important.

By the time the sun began setting behind the mountains, the day's filming was complete.

The assistant director clapped his hands.

"That's a wrap for Liang Wei's scenes!"

Several crew members applauded lightly.

Even some of the extras clapped.

Because everyone understood something.

Although Liang Wei was only a minor character…

He had just delivered one of the strongest scenes of the day.

Jin Taoran bowed politely.

"Thank you for your hard work."

The director approached him one last time before leaving.

"You did well."

Jin Taoran smiled.

"I'm glad you think so."

The director studied him for a moment.

Then he said something unexpected.

"Do you know why I insisted on casting you?"

Jin Taoran shook his head.

"No."

The director chuckled softly.

"When I watched your audition…"

He paused.

"You reminded me of actors from the old days."

Jin Taoran tilted his head slightly.

"What do you mean?"

The director crossed his arms.

"Before the industry became obsessed with popularity."

His voice carried a hint of nostalgia.

"Back when actors focused on performance first."

He pointed toward the battlefield set.

"Today you proved I wasn't wrong."

Then he turned and walked away.

Leaving Jin Taoran standing quietly in the fading sunlight.

---

Later that evening, Jin Taoran returned to his apartment.

The moment he closed the door behind him, he let out a long breath.

Today was exhausting.

But satisfying.

He removed the heavy jacket and sat down on the couch.

The system interface appeared again.

---

Mission Complete

Objective: Perform role with Emotional Resonance.

Result: Success

Reward Granted

Emotional Resonance Level: 2

New Skill Unlocked:

Scene Awareness Lv.1

Description:

The host can sense emotional flow between actors during a performance.

---

Jin Taoran blinked.

Scene Awareness?

He read the description again.

If he understood correctly, the skill allowed him to sense the emotional rhythm of a scene.

That meant he could adjust his acting based on other performers.

Which was extremely valuable in ensemble scenes.

Jin Taoran smiled slightly.

The system really was designed to help him become a better actor.

His phone buzzed.

A message appeared.

Lu Cheng

Jin Taoran opened it.

I watched the scene.

You didn't embarrass Aurora.

Jin Taoran laughed softly.

Typical Lu Cheng compliment.

Cold.

Indirect.

But still a compliment.

He replied quickly.

Thank you for the training.

The response came almost immediately.

Training isn't finished.

Come to the studio tomorrow morning.

Jin Taoran sighed playfully.

Yes, President Lu.

He placed the phone down and leaned back on the couch.

Outside the window, city lights began to flicker across the skyline.

For most actors, today would have been just another day of filming.

But for Jin Taoran—

Today was the day his acting officially appeared on camera.

The day he stopped being an invisible extra.

And started becoming a real actor.

---

Across the city, inside Aurora Entertainment's headquarters, Lu Cheng stood in his office watching the recorded footage again.

His assistant sat across from him.

"You've watched that scene five times already."

Lu Cheng didn't look away from the screen.

"Six."

The assistant chuckled.

"You rarely pay this much attention to new actors."

Lu Cheng finally paused the video.

The screen showed Jin Taoran lying on the battlefield.

Dust drifting through the air.

His final expression is peaceful despite the tragedy.

Lu Cheng leaned back slightly.

"His emotional control is unusual."

The assistant nodded.

"I noticed."

Then he added carefully,

"Do you think he knows about his ability?"

Lu Cheng's gaze sharpened slightly.

Emotional resonance was rare.

Most actors developed it slowly through years of experience.

But Jin Taoran's synchronization level…

Was already approaching that of veteran performers.

Lu Cheng tapped the table once.

"I don't know."

The assistant smiled slightly.

"But you're interested."

Lu Cheng didn't deny it.

Instead, he replayed the final moment of the scene again.

The faint smile.

The quiet line.

"Restore… our home…"

Lu Cheng spoke softly.

"Actors like him…"

The assistant waited.

Lu Cheng finished the sentence calmly.

"Change the industry."

Outside the office window, the night skyline stretched endlessly across the city.

And somewhere among those countless lights—

A new star had quietly begun to rise.
