Vanessa didn't like it, but she went along with it regardless. It was already an inconvenience that Adam had demanded they meet in person instead of talking over the phone, but what other choice did she have?

The events of three weeks ago were still fresh in her mind. So was the determination to make sure she escaped that mansion and put as much distance as possible between herself and Carmen.
Getting to the shopping mall was the easy part.
Convincing the guards assigned to follow her to remain outside while she shopped alone was much harder. They hesitated, exchanged uncertain looks, and reminded her that Carmen had ordered them not to leave her unattended.
She simply sighed, rolled her eyes, and complained that she wanted to buy women's products without having armed men breathing down her neck.
After a brief exchange over their earpieces, they reluctantly agreed to wait near one of the entrances.
