Chapter 2 - 2

Academy Arc – A Village That Trains for the Top

(Age 6)

Morning Discipline

Before the sun rose over the storm-wrapped mountains surrounding Kumogakure, Raizen was already awake.

The estate courtyard was quiet except for the distant rumble of thunder.

Raizen stood barefoot on the cool stone training floor.

Slow breath in.

Slow breath out.

His morning routine had been the same for nearly a year.

First came stretching to wake every muscle in his body.

Then balance drills along a narrow wooden beam his mother had installed across the courtyard.

Finally came endurance exercises.

Push-ups.

Squats.

Short sprints.

Controlled breathing between each set.

Raizen moved with focus rather than speed. Every movement was deliberate.

Inside his mind, Astra monitored the process.

"Heart rate: elevated but stable."

"Muscle fatigue within optimal growth parameters."

Raizen exhaled slowly.

"Good."

The AI continued calmly.

"Reminder: host skeletal and muscular development remains in accelerated optimization phase."

Raizen wiped sweat from his forehead.

"Meaning?"

"Your body is still building foundational strength."

Raizen nodded slightly.

He already knew that.

Because his mother had explained it many times.

The Foundation for the Future

Raizen wasn't the fastest child his age.

He wasn't the strongest either.

But his mother had spent years carefully guiding his development.

Her training methods combined traditional shinobi conditioning with knowledge she learned while serving as a medical shinobi years ago.

With Astra assisting in monitoring his growth, the process had become even more precise.

They focused on something simple.

Balance.

Efficiency.

Foundation.

Instead of pushing his body to extreme limits too early, they allowed his muscles, bones, and chakra pathways to develop steadily.

His mother had once described the goal very clearly.

"You're not training to become strong today."

"You're building the body that could one day become a taijutsu master."

Raizen had liked that idea very much.

But even he understood something important.

That kind of strength would take years.

Breakfast Before the Storm

After finishing his workout, Raizen washed up and joined his mother in the kitchen.

The smell of warm rice and grilled fish filled the room.

Raizen sat at the table while his mother placed two bowls down.

Inside his mind Astra spoke politely.

"Nutritional intake recommended."

Raizen smiled slightly.

"Already ahead of you."

His mother noticed the expression.

"Astra again?"

Raizen nodded.

"She says I need more calories."

His mother laughed softly and slid another portion of rice toward him.

"That AI of yours might be the only thing in the world that can outthink you."

Raizen began eating.

For a few minutes the room was quiet.

Then his mother spoke again.

"Today's the academy entrance evaluation."

"I know."

She watched him carefully.

"You're confident."

Raizen shrugged.

"I've trained for it."

"Yes," she said.

"You have."

But then her tone shifted slightly.

"And that's exactly why I need to remind you of something."

Raizen paused.

"What?"

The Reality of the Academy

His mother leaned back slightly.

"The academy in Kumogakure isn't like the quiet training you've done here."

Raizen listened carefully.

"The village is trying to become the strongest military power in the shinobi world."

Raizen knew that much already.

Kumogakure had always valued strength and battlefield dominance.

But in recent years the village leadership had grown even more ambitious.

They wanted the Hidden Cloud to stand above all other villages.

Which meant their academy had become extremely competitive.

"Your class this year will include children from several powerful clans."

"Some of them are heirs."

Raizen raised an eyebrow.

"Heirs?"

"Yes."

"Children who've been trained by their clans since they could walk."

She took a sip of tea before continuing.

"Some of them will be faster than you."

"Some will be stronger than you."

Raizen considered that calmly.

"That's fine."

His mother smiled faintly.

"I expected you'd say that."

Then she pointed at him with a chopstick.

"But don't forget your real advantages."

Raizen leaned slightly forward.

"My intelligence."

"Yes."

"And your reaction speed."

Raizen nodded.

His observational ability had always been unusually sharp.

But there was one more thing.

"And your balance."

His mother gestured toward his arms.

"You may not be the strongest or fastest in your class yet."

"But you'll be one of the most well-rounded students there.

Raizen continued eating thoughtfully.

Astra's Analysis

Inside his mind Astra added her own quiet commentary.

"Environmental assessment suggests presence of specialized clan techniques."

Raizen responded silently.

"Meaning?"

"Certain students will possess advantages in specific attributes."

"Strength."

"Speed."

"Lightning chakra affinity."

Raizen nodded internally.

That made sense for Kumogakure, a village famous for lightning-based techniques.

Astra continued.

"Host strategy recommendation: emphasize adaptability."

Raizen smirked slightly.

"Basically…"

"Outthink them."

"Correct."

His Mother's Final Advice

After breakfast, Raizen prepared to leave.

His mother walked him to the gate of the estate.

The sky above the village was brightening as morning sunlight pushed through the storm clouds.

She placed a hand on his shoulder.

"You don't need to be the strongest on your first day."

Raizen looked up at her.

"You just need to show them who you are."

He nodded.

Then she added one final thing.

"And remember something important."

Raizen waited.

"You're not competing against them to prove you're better."

"You're competing so that you become better."

Raizen smiled.

"That sounds harder."

She returned the smile.

"It is."

Toward the Academy

Raizen stepped onto the stone road leading toward the academy grounds.

Students from across Kumogakure were already gathering there.

Clan children.

Civilian children.

Future shinobi.

Inside his mind Astra spoke calmly.

"Academy entry evaluation begins in forty minutes."

Raizen adjusted the strap of his bag.

"Then let's see what kind of competition Kumogakure really produces."

Above the village, thunder rolled again across the mountains.

Because in the Hidden Cloud…

Strength wasn't just admired.

It was expected.

And today, Raizen would take his first step into the battlefield that was the academy.
