Hello readers!!! I apologize in advance if this chapter isn't as entertaining as you hoped. I'm still learning how to write a good fight scene. any feedback you could give me would be very much appreciated.

---

Devin traverses the skies on his flaming platform with determination. His eyes watched the streets with precise focus as he tried to locate Freeze's escape vehicle. He had no intention of letting the ice villain get away and resolved to make sure he faces justice. Devin banked his flaming platform through a tight turn and his eyes caught sight of a white van weaving through traffic with a desperate, high-speed recklessness.

"Found you." he rumbled before descending towards the speeding vehicle.

When he was close enough, he sent a concentrated beam of flames towards the rear tires. The high temperatures caused the wheels to melt before skidding to a halt.

Devin hovered near the disabled vehicle, waiting for any shift in movement. In the next moment, ice began to form on the near doors of the van before being blown off with an immense amount of force.

Freeze stepped out of the van with his cold gun in hand while his goons held rifles.

"So, you still intend to get in my way?" Freeze's voice was laced with anger and frustration.

"Very, well." he added coldly. "This time, I'll make sure to finish the job."

He fired his cold gun at Devin and his henchmen pulled the triggers on the rifles.

Devin took evasive actions to avoid the beam of cold and barrage of bullets. He maneuvered around the beam and would sue his rocky platform as a shield against the bullets.

He wanted to retaliate but his options were limited. While he was sure Freeze could handle his flames, that wasn't the same for the normal human henchmen. He didn't want to hurt them or cause severe injuries.

Right now, the bullets were his most troublesome obstacle since the cold beam wasn't hard to avoid.

As he turned around to keep evading, a bullet struck the right side of his back. Because of the heat his body radiated, the bullet melted but not fast enough before it chipped a piece of his body.

Devin winced from the pain.

He needed a way to deal with those guns.

Suddenly, a memory surfaced and his eyes widened as an idea came to mind.

Turning his gaze to the henchmen, he focused his power over fire. Through sheer force of will, the sleeves of the men's jacket ignited in flames.

The sudden appearance of the consuming fire terrified the men and they unintentionally dropped the rifles and started franticly patting their arms down to put out the flames.

Seeing the fallen weapons, Devin took the opportunity to release a wave of flames at them which resulted in the rifles to become molten slag.

He then threw fire ball near the henchman who had put the flames out. They henchman, now deprived of the weapon, became scared and tried to run away. before they could get far, Devin shot a beam that created a wall of flames.

"You're not doing anywhere." He said, making their escape futile.

"And neither are you." came the voice of Mr. Freeze.

Devin had little time to react when a beam of ice approached him. He tilted, using his platform as a shield. This resulted in him losing control over his flight and he fell towards the ground before hitting it with a thud.

"Ug." Devin groaned as he knelt. "I'll definitely feel that in the morning." Falling from 20ft in the air was not on his to-do list.

He turned around to face Mr. Freeze and his eyes widened in alertness when he saw the barrel of his cold gun glow a luminous blue.

Devin's minds raced as he knew there was no time to dodge and he only had one option.

The ice villain's cold gun released its energy that raced towards the downed flaming figure.

Devin raised his palms towards Mr. Freeze and channeled his pyrokinetic energy. The temperature around his hands increased before a concentrated beam of flames.

The two opposing attacks raced towards each other before colliding. Searing flames met blistering cold in a dazzling spectacle. The contradicting elements moved from one side to the other as they tried to push each other back.

Freeze's scowl grew with frustration. Time and time again, the creature got in his way today. He'd had enough.

Turning up the power of his cold gun, his beam gradually started to push the wave of flames from his advisory.

Devin's eyes widened with shock when he noticed his flames being pushed back. To make matters worse, Freeze began moving forwards, further, pushing his beam back.

Anxiety started to creep in as Freeze was gaining more ground. The ice villain's confident smile only added to the fear that was growing within him as he still knelt.

"What's wrong 'hero'?" Freeze spoke in a mocking tone continuing forward. "Feeling scared?"

"Don't worry. Once I'm done with you, you won't need to worry about feeling scared. You won't feel anything." He added, his words piercing Devin.

As if responding to his fear, Devin's flames were starting to lose their intensity and the ice beam was only getting closer to him.

Eventually, it was only a few feet away from him.

Facing this, Devin's mind raced with the emotions he was feeling.

'What am I doing?!'

'Why am I doing this?!'

'Why am I risking my life?!'

'Am I going to die like this?!'

'I could've just flown away after saving those officers!'

'So, why?!'

Since coming to this world, Devin had been wondering about the action he had been taking. Were they out of fear? were they out of guilt? Did he want to make things right?

He already knew the answer.

He wanted to live without regrets.

He wanted to use his powers in secret. Using them to live his life comfortably and help people in from behind the scenes. But then he remembered the weight of the officers in their ice tombs. He remembered the look on Alice's face when she saw her parents. He remembered when he saw Ms. Joanne and said he was going to do right. If he ran, he wasn't just a survivor—he was a coward.

At that moment, what he desired didn't matter to him. Sure, he was afraid but he had the power to do something and he wasn't going to let someone suffer for his inaction.

Hero or not, he wasn't going to stand by while someone got hurt

'Fear be damned!'

As if in response to his resolve and determination, the flames that comprised his body didn't just push back; he ignited. His body flared from orange to a blinding, solar white. The steam around him exploded outward in a shockwave. He stood up, his feet melting the asphalt into glass with every step. He walked directly into the blue beam, the ice shattering into mist inches from his face.

Freezes eyes widened in shock when the flaming individual started walking past into him attack. he tried to increase the intensity but it was useless. Devin wouldn't allow himself to fall, not as long as the threat before him was still standing.

"Impossible!" Freeze's eyes widened behind his dome. "Be being can sustain that-

He was cut off when Devin finally reached him.

Devin clamped his white-hot hands onto the barrel of the cryo-cannon. The high-tech alloy screamed, glowing red-hot instantly before sagging like wet clay.

Freeze dropped his not useless gun. he stepped back, fear creeping in.

Devin didn't give him a second chance. He drove a heavy, magma-fist into Freeze's chest plate. The impact sent the villain flying back into the van, the reinforced armor crumpling as Freeze slumped to the ground, unconscious.

Devin dropped to his knees, his flames dimming to a low, exhausted amber.

He soon heard the sirens of the approaching GCPD Major Crime Unit. He saw that as his cue to leave and stood up. creating a tornado of flames around himself, Devin was carried to a nearby roof before the police arrived. He then turned into Ghost freak before turning invisible and finally making his escape.

The police soon arrive on scene and arrested Freeze and his goons. However, there was no sign of the fire figure who intercepted him.

Nonetheless, they were grateful for his intervention.
