The first units went into the administration wing four days after Fossaverde signed, and Bettola's crew did the heavy lifting.
A year ago, Bettola had rented Kat a bench by the hour and hadn't bothered learning her name until Kat paid for a full month upfront. Now Bettola was House Montecardi's biggest subcontractor in Pavona, and she treated Kat exactly the same way. She'd said maybe nine words to her all morning, and most of them were "higher."
Per Kat's terms, the doors were propped open. By the second bell there were thirty students packed into the corridor between classes, and more were coming.
"It's the same array as the shipping container," Kat said, one hand on the housing while two of Bettola's women bolted it into the wall. "Second generation, though. It draws about a fifth less qi than the first run, and the housing plate is standardized, so any certified servicer can open it, check it, and close it again without guessing what the last person did."
