______

Mildew Country

Inside an apartment, a young man who looked to be around twenty-five years old sat on the couch watching a TV report about a recent massacre in Gotham City.

"Recently, a restaurant was attacked by a group of robbers during business hours. A shooting broke out, resulting in the deaths of twelve people."

"Fortunately, Batman arrived at the scene in time and prevented more casualties…"

The news continued playing on the television.

The young man, however, already knew exactly what kind of world he had crossed into.

This was an extremely dangerous world.

The DC Universe.

And things didn't stop there. His name was Jin, and he was currently living in one of the most dangerous cities in the DC world—

Gotham City.

In this city, crimes happened almost every few days. Robberies, murders, gang fights—violence was simply part of everyday life.

It had been more than ten years since Jin had transmigrated into this world, becoming a seven-year-old boy of Chinese descent who coincidentally shared the same name as him.

The good news was that Bruce Wayne and Zatanna had been his childhood friends.

The bad news was that he was born in Gotham and had no parents.

Fortunately, Jin possessed a check-in system.

When he first arrived in Gotham, he had already checked in once and received the Super Soldier Serum of Captain America.

As soon as he obtained it, the system automatically fused the serum into Jin's body.

Since childhood, his physical abilities had been far beyond those of ordinary people.

Jin had once tried going to other cities—such as Metropolis and Central City—to see if he could check in again.

But the system gave no response at all.

Perhaps it required certain conditions to trigger.

Over the years, nothing major had happened around him.

The only significant event he could think of was the death of Bruce Wayne's parents, and Jin had not been present at the time.

As a transmigrator, Jin only remembered the plots from the DC movies. Aside from basic character settings, he knew almost nothing about the deeper storyline.

Sometimes he secretly regretted it.

If he had known he would transmigrate into this world, he would have definitely studied the entire DC timeline in advance.

Knock! Knock!

Just as Jin was lost in thought, someone suddenly knocked on the door of his apartment.

"Who is it?" Jin called out.

But aside from the sound of the news channel playing on the TV, no one answered.

Jin frowned.

If this were another city, he might not think much about it.

But this was Gotham.

If you let your guard down here, you might die.

Even though Jin now possessed physical abilities comparable to Captain America, a bullet to the head would still kill him.

Jin slowly stood up, carefully avoiding making any loud noise.

He quietly walked to the door and picked up the baseball bat leaning beside it.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

Placing one hand on the doorknob, Jin silently counted to three in his mind.

Then—

He suddenly swung the door open and smashed the baseball bat forward.

"Spell!"

At that very moment, a pleasant female voice rang out.

A spell formed from reversed English words was instantly cast.

Jin's body—and the baseball bat in his hand—suddenly floated uncontrollably in the air.

However, Jin didn't look panicked.

Instead, he let out a relieved sigh.

Because he already knew who it was.

"Zatanna… was there really a need to pretend to be a ghost like that?" Jin said helplessly.

Standing at the doorway was a beautiful woman with long black hair.

She wore an elegant black dress, and the light makeup on her face made it clear that she had carefully prepared to meet someone important.

Her name was Zatanna Zatara.

She was Jin's childhood friend—someone he had grown up playing with.

Along with them had also been the rich young master with the surname Wayne.

Jin and Zatanna had always been very close.

They had attended the same public schools—elementary school, middle school, and even high school.

Zatanna pouted slightly, looking a bit annoyed.

"I finally managed to sneak out of the house because I wanted to surprise you," she said. "And you almost smashed my head with a baseball bat?"

Jin didn't feel embarrassed at all.

"Do you know where we are?" he replied.

"This is Gotham. Murders happen every few weeks—sometimes even every few days."

"If someone knocks on your door and doesn't respond when asked who they are, of course people will get suspicious."

Gotham's crime rate was among the highest in the entire country.

Calling it number one wouldn't even be an exaggeration.

Anyone who lived in Gotham had learned to stay cautious.

Especially someone like Jin—a transmigrator who knew just how dangerous this world could be.

After hearing his explanation, Zatanna thought about it for a moment.

"Well… I guess you're right," she admitted.

The next moment, she casually waved her hand.

Jin slowly floated down from the air and gently landed on the sofa.

After the small misunderstanding ended, Zatanna smiled brightly.

"Long time no see."

Then she ran forward and tightly hugged Jin, pressing her whole body against him.

"Long time no see, Jin."

It had been two years since they last saw each other.

Back then, Zatanna had been taken away by her father—Zatara—to train in backwards magic.

Whether she had cleverly escaped on her own or whether Zatara had secretly allowed it… no one knew.

But after two years, Zatanna had finally returned to see the person she missed the most.

"You have no idea how much I've missed you these past two years," she said softly.

"I know, I know."

She hugged him so tightly that it felt like she wanted to merge into him.

Yeah… I can tell how much you missed me, Jin thought.

At that moment, the system in his mind suddenly reacted.

A long-absent voice echoed inside his head.

[Check-in successful: Zatanna]

[Reward obtained: Extraordinary Magic]

[Extraordinary Mana: Grants a magical physique and maximum affinity with magic. Greatly increases the host's maximum mana capacity and allows mana to regenerate automatically over time.]

Jin was instantly overjoyed.

After being silent for so long, the system had finally responded again.

Overcome with excitement, Jin held Zatanna's pretty face and suddenly kissed her on the cheek.

Zatanna's face instantly turned bright red.

Since childhood, no boy had ever kissed her before.

And now… she had been kissed by the person she liked the most.

Seeing her reaction, Jin couldn't help laughing.

This girl was really too shy.

"Let's go out for a walk," Jin said.

"Ah… okay."
