Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Is Madam Truly Willing to Do Anything?

"According to the latest news reports, Mr. Shinichi Kudo—the famous detective hailed as the 'Savior of the Japanese Police' and the 'Sherlock Holmes of the Heisei Era'—remains missing..."

"Dr. Ryuji Birasaka, a gynecologist at St. Juliana Hospital, was brutally murdered recently. The killer's identity is currently unknown, and police state they are actively investigating."

"Recently, incidents of Ghouls preying on humans in District 11 have spiked. It is suspected to be the work of the SS-rated Ghoul, 'The Binge Eater'."

"The world-renowned archaeologist, Jackie Chan, arrived at Tokyo Airport this morning."

Watching the various news clips rolling across the screen, Hyuga Gen's mouth hung open in disbelief.

"Where exactly have I been sent? Shinichi Kudo? Ghouls? Even Jackie Chan from the American cartoon is here? If I'm not careful, I'll be dead before I know it."

The others he could handle—he'd read plenty of crossover novels—but what was up with that gynecologist? If he remembered correctly, that guy was from that kind of anime, wasn't he?

Once the news segment ended, Gen turned off the TV and stood up to look in the mirror.

The reflection showed a face as smooth as jade and a tall, upright stature, roughly 185cm. Despite never tiring of his own handsome face, his jaw ached whenever he thought about how he got here. What kind of protagonist dies from laughing at a gaming match? Maybe he was just a side character.

Hyuga Gen was originally named Lin Gen, a naive college graduate from Earth about to face the harsh realities of society. Before transmigrating, he had been sitting comfortably in front of his computer watching the League of Legends World Championship.

Everything was fine until he witnessed a certain "World's Best Top Laner" perform a spectacular feat of dashing back and forth under a turret. Gen laughed so hard he couldn't catch his breath, blacked out, and collapsed.

When he opened his eyes again, he had become a nineteen-year-old freshman at the prestigious Kamii University in Tokyo. His parents were deceased.

For some reason, it had taken nineteen years for his past-life memories to awaken today. Gen felt it was a terrible waste; think of how much he could have accomplished in those nineteen years!

However, upon seeing the staggering string of numbers in the bank account left by his parents, his frustration vanished instantly. He had never seen so many digits in his life. Even in his previous world, you'd only see that many zeros at very specific "special gatherings."

Furthermore, his current apartment was a high-end unit near Kamii University purchased specifically for his schooling. He also owned a luxury villa worth billions of yen in District 11.

Gen, having already decided to live a life of leisure, considered visiting the villa for a few days. But that thought evaporated the moment he saw the news.

District 11 villa? Anyone who wants it can have it! I'm giving it away for free! Going to District 11 now is a death wish. I'll wait until the Ghouls there are wiped out.

This wasn't some peaceful slice-of-life romance world. Based on the news, this was a crossover world with supernatural powers. Trying to "coast" through life here would get him killed.

Moreover, his university sounded familiar—it was the same one Ken Kaneki attended in Tokyo Ghoul. Surely the campus was safe?

Earlier, Gen had been so immersed in the joy of his windfall that he hadn't noticed the various threats. He was even a bit fuzzy on how he had fainted before his memories returned. He could only vaguely recall meeting a girl yesterday; after glancing behind her, he remembered nothing else.

The more he thought, the more his head throbbed. He decided to let it go—the bridge would be crossed when he reached it. First, he needed to find a way to access supernatural powers to strengthen himself. Personal strength was the only real guarantee against the unknown.

Currently, his mental energy seemed quite strong. He also appeared to have an ability that increased the favorability of people he interacted with—the longer the exposure, the higher the affection. Additionally, his body emitted a pleasant, faint fragrance. He wasn't sure of its origin; perhaps it was a special constitution?

As for how to quickly contact the supernatural world, Gen was currently clueless. He lacked sufficient information.

Setting his thoughts aside, Gen put on a high-end casual suit. Seeing that it was almost time for classes, he opened his door to head out.

As he stepped out, he heard the sound of moving furniture from the neighboring unit, which had been vacant for a long time. Large and small cardboard boxes were piled in the hallway; clearly, someone was moving in.

As Gen carefully maneuvered through the narrow passage between the boxes, the neighboring door clicked open.

A curvaceous woman with long brown hair styled in a classic "homemaker" fashion stepped out. Her exquisite face, accented by a beauty mark on her chin, made her look incredibly charming—like a blooming peach blossom, vivid and alluring.

Seeing Gen carefully picking his way through the boxes, an apologetic expression immediately appeared on her face. She greeted him:

"You must be the neighbor from next door. You're so young."

She then added sheepishly, "I'm so sorry, sir. My husband and I just moved in this morning and haven't had time to tidy up. Please excuse the inconvenience; we'll have this cleared as soon as possible."

She bowed slightly in apology, seemingly unaware that a significant portion of her cleavage was visible to Gen.

Gen took one look and quickly turned his head away, only to slam his face directly into a cardboard box with a loud thud.

"Ah!"

Whatever was inside the box was incredibly hard. The pain brought tears to his eyes, and blood began to pour uncontrollably from his nose.

Hearing the commotion, the neighbor looked up in confusion and saw Gen frantically trying to wipe away the blood. Panicked, she began bowing repeatedly.

"Oh! I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry! It's my fault for leaving things in the way. Are you alright?!"

She quickly pulled some tissues from her pocket and began helping him wipe the blood. Gen didn't refuse, and it took quite a while to finally stop the bleeding.

Once the bleeding ceased, the woman let out a sigh of relief. She then suddenly dropped to her knees in a formal seiza position, leaning forward with her forehead touching the floor in a sincere apology.

"I am truly, deeply sorry! It is my fault for the clutter that caused your injury. If you have any demands, I will do anything to make it up to you. Please, you must forgive me."

Unaccustomed to such a display, Gen quickly helped her up. Borrowing a line from a movie, he joked:

"Is Madam truly willing to do anything?"

The woman gasped, startled. Just as she was about to stammer a response, Gen laughed.

"It's alright, Madam. I was just joking. This was just my own clumsiness. If there's nothing else, I'll be going—I'll miss roll call if I don't leave now."

Relieved, she replied softly, "I'm so glad you've forgiven me, sir. I'll move these boxes inside immediately."

Gen waved it off. "Don't worry about it, we're neighbors. I really should get going or I'll be late."

As he turned to leave, she noticed the brand of his clothing. Realizing they were expensive, she said guiltily:

"Sir, there's still blood on your clothes and face. Why don't you take the jacket off and let me wash it? I promise I can get the stains out."

Gen looked down and saw she was right; his clean casual suit was stained in several places, and his face felt sticky. He nodded.

"Then I'll trouble you, Madam."

He took off the blood-stained jacket and handed it to her, though he politely declined her invitation to come inside to wash his face.
