Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Departure

Pallet Town.

Bright sunlight streamed through the half-open window, gently illuminating the sleeping boy on the bed.

His breathing was steady and deep, and his relaxed expression carried an innocent charm.

Suddenly, the sharp ringing of an alarm clock shattered the peaceful atmosphere, waking him from his deep sleep.

The boy rubbed his eyes and groggily sat up.

He glanced at the blue figure beside him, who was softly murmuring in her sleep, and gently shook her.

"Kai, it's time to get up. Today's the day we start our journey!"

As the boy spoke and gently nudged her, Ralts slowly opened her eyes.

Looking at the boy in front of her and sensing his excitement, she smiled happily as well.

"Ral!"

"Yeah, I've been looking forward to this for a long time. Let's go find Professor Oak."

After saying that, the boy got dressed. Holding Ralts in his arms, he went to wash up.

---

After finishing, the boy went next door and knocked on the door.

Soon, a brown-haired woman opened it. Her gentle temperament was obvious at a glance.

"Aunt Hanako, good morning. I'm here to find Ash."

The boy greeted her politely before stating his purpose.

"Oh, Kai. I'm sorry, but Ash is still asleep."

Delia looked at the boy warmly as she spoke, treating him as if he were her own child.

The boy's name was Kai. He had come to this world when he was three years old and had now lived here for thirteen years.

(In this setting, trainers can only begin traveling at fifteen years old. Ten is considered too young—this refers to physical age.)

When Kai was five, his parents died in an accident while conducting research outside.

Because their family lived next door to Delia, and Kai's mother and Delia had been close friends, the two families shared a very good relationship.

"Ash is still sleeping? Today's the day new trainers receive their Pokémon."

Kai sighed helplessly.

"Ral."

The Ralts in his arms perfectly imitated Kai's sigh.

"Ralts is still so adorable."

Delia chuckled softly while looking at the blue-haired little cutie in Kai's arms.

"Ral!"

Ralts happily cried out when she heard the praise.

Kai gently patted the small blue head in his arms before saying goodbye.

"Then, Aunt Hanako, I'll go find Professor Oak first."

---

Arriving at Professor Oak's Laboratory, Kai first knocked on the wide-open door before calling out with mild annoyance.

"Professor Oak, are you making instant noodles with a beaker again?"

The person inside flinched, then slowly turned around, scratching his head awkwardly.

"Oh, Kai. It's just convenient, you know?"

Professor Oak explained briefly before quickly changing the topic.

"By the way, the thing you asked me to help with is ready. Come with me."

Kai followed Professor Oak into the hall.

Oak took out a Poké Ball and handed it to Kai.

"This is the Pokémon you wanted. I asked the Pokémon League to select the one with the best potential."

"Thank you, Professor Oak."

Kai accepted the Poké Ball and thanked him, then eagerly released the Pokémon inside.

A flash of red light appeared.

A small blue figure with foam around its neck materialized in front of Kai.

"Froakie."

Froakie looked at Kai with confusion.

"Hello, Froakie. I'm Kai, and this is Ralts. From today on, we're partners."

Kai crouched down and spoke gently.

"Ral."

The Ralts in his arms greeted Froakie as well.

Feeling the enthusiasm from Kai and Ralts, Froakie nodded happily in response.

---

After the introductions, Professor Oak spoke up from the side.

"Kai, are you really not considering continuing your Pokémon research with me?"

He asked because Kai had been helping with research since he was ten years old.

Using knowledge from his previous life, Kai had helped Oak study the Fairy type and several other Eevee evolutions.

That was also why Oak had gone out of his way to request this Froakie from the Pokémon League.

"No, Professor Oak. I've decided to travel."

Kai shook his head firmly.

Hearing this, Oak didn't insist further. Instead, he handed over the Pokédex and several Poké Balls on the table.

"These are your Pokédex and Poké Balls. Don't lose them—a Pokédex is difficult to replace."

Kai placed Ralts on top of his head, accepted the items with both hands, and said gratefully,

"Understood, Professor Oak. I'll be heading out now."

---

Just as Kai was about to leave after saying goodbye, a voice sounded from the doorway.

"Good morning, Kai. Leaving already?"

Kai turned around and smiled after seeing who it was.

"Oh, Gary. Good morning. I was just about to set off."

Because Kai often helped at the lab, he had developed a particularly good relationship with Gary.

Gary walked up to him.

He first greeted the blue-haired little girl sitting on Kai's head before asking about Ash.

"Ash isn't still sleeping, is he?"

Kai spread his hands helplessly.

"You guessed right. I tried to wake him up this morning, but he still wouldn't get out of bed."

Gary nodded knowingly.

"I figured. He's such a slacker."

"Alright, then I'll be going. See you at the Indigo League."

Kai looked at Gary with determination and extended his fist.

"Hm. See you at the Indigo League."

Their fists bumped together with a crisp sound.

It was just a simple fist bump—but it carried their promise and determination.

---

After leaving Professor Oak's Laboratory, Kai arrived outside Viridian Forest.

He released Froakie.

A flash of red light appeared.

"Froakie."

The small blue frog landed on the ground.

Then Kai looked at Froakie and activated his system.

The system had appeared when Kai was five years old.

Besides granting him Psychic as part of a beginner's gift package, it had also given him Viridian Power.

In addition to the beginner package, the system also had a detection function.

A transparent screen appeared in front of Kai, displaying Froakie's information.

---

Name: Froakie

Gender: Male

Level: 10

Ability: Protean

Moves: Pound, Growl, Lick, Water Gun, Quick Attack, Water Pulse, Ice Beam

Held Item: None

---

Seeing the information, Kai's eyes lit up.

"Protean, and Champion-level potential? It looks like Professor Oak really put in a lot of effort."

His gratitude toward Oak deepened.

"It's decided. From now on, I'll work even harder to monitor Professor Oak's eating habits," Kai thought to himself.
