Chapter 37 - Chapter 37 – Swatting the Deadliest Fly

Wade stared at the massive tree in Rorschach's hands and fell silent for a moment. His expression froze in disbelief as his brain struggled to process what he was seeing.

Then he finally snapped.

"…You're right," Wade said bitterly. "This isn't fair at all."

The complaint came out half-angry, half-exasperated. But Rorschach didn't bother responding. He had already shifted his grip on the uprooted poplar tree, grabbing the exposed roots with both hands.

To him, the entire tree now felt like a gigantic staff.

Or more precisely, like a massive club.

With a single powerful motion, he swung it straight toward Wade.

Whoosh!

Despite its enormous size and ridiculous appearance, the tree moved through the air with terrifying speed. Considering Rorschach's overwhelming strength, swinging something like this required almost no effort.

The thick trunk became a handle, and the enormous canopy of branches and leaves became the striking surface.

The whole tree roared through the air like a giant fan.

"Shit!"

Wade's eyes widened as the rapidly expanding tree crown filled his vision. Instinct screamed at him that if that thing landed, he would be flattened instantly.

Without hesitating, he threw himself sideways in a desperate dodge.

There was simply no other option.

Even if Wade possessed absurd sword skills capable of deflecting a storm of bullets, those techniques were useless against a weapon like this.

The branches were intertwined into a massive canopy several meters wide.

There was no way Wade could slice through the entire thing with a sword.

Boom!

The tree crown slammed into the ground with a thunderous crash. The impact shook the surrounding earth, scattering dirt and broken branches in every direction.

Rorschach lifted the tree again as if it weighed nothing.

"Pretty nimble," he remarked casually while looking at Wade. His tone carried faint amusement. "But how many times can you dodge?"

He had to admit that this was the first time he had used such an unconventional weapon. The balance and reach were unfamiliar, and his first swing had mostly been experimental.

But now that he had adjusted, things were becoming clearer.

From his perspective, the enormous tree crown functioned exactly like a fly swatter.

And Wade?

Just a particularly annoying fly.

Against this kind of overwhelming size and force, Wade's elegant swordsmanship and refined combat techniques suddenly seemed irrelevant.

This was nothing less than dimensional suppression.

All of Wade's skill meant little when the attack simply covered everything.

Of course, the tactic had a weakness.

Wade couldn't be allowed to get close.

If he managed to slip inside the range of the tree crown, the entire strategy would collapse. At close quarters, the huge weapon would become cumbersome and useless.

Wade clearly understood this as well.

The moment he escaped the first strike, he rolled across the ground and sprang forward again. His body twisted and darted like a monkey racing through the jungle as he rushed toward Rorschach.

Unfortunately for him, reality wasn't as kind as his plan.

The difference in raw physical ability between the two men was enormous. No matter how brilliant Wade's technique was, it couldn't erase that gap.

A red flash burst from Rorschach's eyes.

Zap!

A heat ray shot toward Wade.

Wade immediately abandoned his charge and dove sideways again. There was no way he would attempt to block something like that.

But the moment he dodged—

The giant fly swatter was already waiting.

Boom!

The massive tree crown slammed down from above, covering Wade completely.

Branches and leaves exploded outward as the enormous canopy crashed onto the ground. Wade disappeared beneath it entirely.

Rorschach calmly planted one end of the uprooted trunk into the ground and stepped lightly on it with his foot.

Just like that, Wade was pinned under the weight of the entire tree.

It resembled the legend of the Monkey King trapped beneath the Five-Finger Mountain.

No matter how much he struggled, he couldn't break free.

"You're just… bullying people," Wade's strained voice echoed from beneath the branches. "This isn't fair. Totally unfair."

His voice sounded hoarse and pained.

Under the tangled canopy, Wade's condition was miserable. Branches and splintered wood had cut into his body in several places, leaving streaks of blood across his suit.

But those wounds weren't the real problem.

The true damage came from the impact.

When the tree crown had slammed down, it had felt like being crushed by a falling boulder. Several of Wade's ribs had snapped instantly under the pressure.

Rorschach looked down at him calmly.

His eyes began glowing red again.

This time, Wade had nowhere left to escape.

"Shoot!"

"Shoot!"

The Stryker agents nearby finally snapped out of their shock.

Watching Wade get crushed so easily had rattled them badly, but they weren't going to stand there and do nothing.

Gunfire erupted immediately.

Rat-tat-tat!

Rat-tat-tat!

Bullets poured toward Rorschach like a storm of steel.

At his current level of durability, Rorschach couldn't completely ignore concentrated gunfire. A barrage like that still posed a real threat.

He released the tree instantly.

All the strength in his legs exploded at once.

Crack!

The ground beneath his feet fractured, leaving a deep pit as his body launched sideways like a cannonball.

With his enhanced perception and reaction speed, Rorschach predicted the trajectories and dodged the wave of bullets.

He landed behind cover near the roadside.

Specifically—

Behind a parked car.

Without hesitation, Rorschach reached out, grabbed the vehicle, and lifted it straight into the air.

The entire car became a makeshift shield.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Bullets hammered against the metal frame instantly. Sparks flew as the vehicle was riddled with holes within seconds.

Meanwhile, Wade seized the opportunity.

While Rorschach was dodging the gunfire, he had managed to crawl out from beneath the massive tree canopy.

But before he could even stand up—

Zap!

A heat ray shot across the battlefield.

It pierced straight through Wade's chest.

"…Shit," Wade muttered as he looked down at the smoking hole in his torso. His eyes widened slowly in disbelief. "So this is really where I die. That guy was right… I didn't die unfairly."

Those were his final words.

Then Wade Wilson collapsed to the ground.

Even in death, the man had managed to say something strangely offbeat.

Rorschach couldn't help but complain silently in his mind.

At the same time, a dull burning pain spread through his eyes.

He had used the heat rays three times now. Each burst had been brief, but the strain accumulated.

His vision felt slightly hot and irritated, with a faint throbbing ache behind his eyes.

For the moment, he couldn't continue firing heat rays.

But that hardly mattered.

After all, the remaining enemies were just ordinary agents.

Why would he need laser vision to deal with them?

Rorschach grabbed the car firmly with both hands and held it in front of himself like a giant shield.

Then he charged forward.

His advance was overwhelming.

For the Stryker agents, the moment Rorschach closed the distance, their greatest advantage—firepower—would disappear completely.

Once he reached them, they would become nothing more than lambs waiting for slaughter.

Because if they kept firing recklessly at that range, the odds of hitting their own teammates would be far higher than hitting Rorschach.

"Stop him! You have to stop him!"

The squad leader shouted desperately.

Gunfire intensified.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bullets became denser and denser.

But it was useless.

To Rorschach, a car weighing more than a ton was barely an inconvenience. He carried it forward effortlessly and closed the distance in seconds.

When he reached them—

Bang!

Rorschach kicked the car forward.

The massive vehicle shot through the air like a launched boulder, hurtling directly toward the agents.

The sight made their scalps tingle with terror.

They tried to dodge, but there was no time.

The car smashed into them with unstoppable momentum.

Several agents were crushed instantly, their bodies flattened into pulp beneath the impact.
