Over the course of a month, Liam had completed twenty successful sign-ins. The steady accumulation of power pushed his experience forward by a noticeable margin, edging him closer to the next threshold.

But he didn't linger on it.

After finishing his latest round of sign-ins, he returned to the Mutant Academy alongside Clarice and Polaris. The familiar grounds came into view, calm on the surface, though something in the atmosphere felt subtly off.

The moment they stepped inside, they were greeted by Storm and Shadowcat.

"Welcome back," Storm said, her lips curving into a faint smile. Her eyes flicked between Liam, Clarice, and Polaris, and she gave a small, knowing wink, clearly drawing her own conclusions.

Liam caught the look and shrugged casually, offering no explanation.

"It's great you're back, Weiss!" Shadowcat added, her tone noticeably more energetic than usual. There was a hint of urgency beneath her excitement.

Liam tilted his head slightly, picking up on it immediately. "What's going on?"

"It's Rogue, she—" Shadowcat hesitated for a fraction of a second, clearly unsure how to phrase it.

"What happened to Rogue?" Liam asked, his expression sharpening.

"She's missing. The whole school's been searching, but no one's found her."

"Missing?" Liam paused, genuinely surprised for a brief moment. Disappearing from the academy wasn't something that happened easily.

"Does Professor Ororo know?" he asked, glancing toward Storm.

Storm let out a quiet sigh. "Of course I know."

"Then where is she?" Liam pressed, his brows knitting together slightly.

Storm didn't answer immediately. Instead, she turned and gestured for them to follow. "Come with me."

Liam's mind moved quickly as he walked. A possibility had already formed, one that fit a little too well with the situation.

He didn't voice it.

Clarice and Polaris exchanged confused glances behind him, but neither of them interrupted. The tension in the air was enough to keep them silent.

Storm led them into a conference room.

Inside, Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Logan were already there. None of them spoke. The atmosphere was heavy, weighed down by something serious enough to silence even Logan.

"I brought Wes," Storm said as she stepped in.

Cyclops glanced over, his expression tightening slightly. "Why is he here? This situation isn't complicated enough already?"

Logan didn't bother softening his tone. "Kid should be in his room, getting some sleep."

"Now's not the time for that," Liam replied calmly, pulling out a chair and sitting down without hesitation. His posture was relaxed, but his eyes were sharp. "Storm, you can tell me what's going on now."

"Kid, this doesn't concern you," Logan said, stepping forward. He placed a hand on Liam's shoulder, intending to force him up.

He pushed.

Nothing happened.

Liam didn't move an inch.

Logan increased the pressure slightly, his expression shifting as he realized something was off. It felt like he was trying to move a solid structure rather than a person.

"Logan," Liam said with a faint smile, not even turning his head. "Mind taking your hand off?"

Logan stared at him for a second before slowly withdrawing his hand. There was no point pushing further.

"Enough," Storm cut in, her tone firm. "Wes stays. As for the rest…"

Her gaze shifted toward the doorway, where Clarice, Polaris, and Shadowcat were standing.

"We want to help too," Shadowcat said immediately, stepping forward before Storm could finish.

Polaris followed her in, her expression calm but confident. "You should know who I am. I'm more than qualified to be here."

Logan let out an irritated breath. "You kids should head back to your dorms, say goodnight, and stay out of this."

Polaris raised her hand slightly.

A faint green glow gathered around her fingers, magnetic energy humming in the air.

"Want to test that?" she asked, her tone edged with challenge.

Logan's temper flared instantly. He moved to stand—

—and stopped.

His body suddenly felt heavy, as if something invisible had locked him in place. His muscles tensed, but no matter how much force he applied, he couldn't move properly.

Liam watched the scene unfold and couldn't help letting out a quiet laugh. Wolverine meeting Magneto's bloodline was always an interesting matchup.

"Let me introduce her properly," Liam said, clearing his throat. "This is Lorna Dane. Polaris. Magneto's daughter."

Jean and Cyclops remained calm, clearly already aware of that fact.

Logan, however, reacted immediately.

"You brought Magneto's daughter here?" he snapped, veins standing out along his arms as he struggled against the invisible restraint. "Do you even know Rogue was taken by Magneto?"

That confirmed it.

Liam had already suspected it, and now he had his answer.

Magneto.

And his objective was obvious.

Rogue's ability allowed her to absorb the powers of others. Magneto would use that—use her—to activate the machine designed to awaken the X-gene in humans.

The problem was the cost.

Activating that machine came with a fatal drawback. Whoever powered it wouldn't survive.

Magneto wasn't planning to sacrifice himself.

So he chose Rogue instead.

"Logan, relax," Liam said, his tone calm but firm. "You don't need to look twice to know Polaris is on our side."

Polaris smirked slightly, clearly unfazed by the tension. "Honestly, I wouldn't mind going to see Magneto myself."

That seemed to settle Logan just enough for him to stop pushing against the restraint.

"Alright," Liam continued, leaning forward slightly. "Let's focus. Why did Magneto take Rogue? Where is she now? And where's Professor X?"

He already knew most of the answers.

But hearing them directly still mattered.

Jean hesitated, her expression darkening slightly. "We don't know exactly what Magneto's planning yet. And we haven't located Rogue."

She paused briefly.

"As for the Professor…"

Liam's eyes narrowed. "What about him?"

Cyclops spoke this time, his voice cold and controlled.

"Magneto got to him first."

There was a brief silence before he added the rest.

"The Professor is unconscious."
