Chapter 1 - Harbour

A single sun sat between the ocean, and the clouds that followed the sky.

"Why?" a voice said firm, distilled.

A young boy said it, he was looking directly at the sun, the bright light of sun was reflected in his green eyes. His black hair appeared a black, ghostly ink. His white skin pale against the suns glare.

Silas was his name.

He was leaning against a railing, his head barely conquered over the edge. His eyes mirrored the cloudy white sky, with a golden light of the sun, the ocean clear as glass.

The sunset that was always certain; the mere presence of the sun shifted the very movement of the world: waves flowed like rivers, winds were sucked thin, even his woolly, ragged clothes wanted the warmth of the light, although that was probably just the wind blowing past him.

His head lowered

"I'm bored" he thought.

His posture was set on the sun, his head barely reached over the railing.

His mind drifted like spilled black ink across paper.

There he was again, not there in person but the memory was real enough.

A room filled with light that didn't help him see, his dimly lit perception only reached as far as his breath. He felt like he stood in a courtroom and was waiting to be prosecuted.

"Silas" a word that was said clear but sounded like a mumble.

Although he couldn't see past the dark fog he looked at the dark figure that mumbled it.

Step, step, step. Each step grew clearer.

The person stood directly in front of Silas kneeling down, she wore a suit.

Putting one hand gently on Silas's shoulder and said "Don't worry you're not in trouble, Silas we're just trying to help you." She spoke softly, but this time her words were clear.

"Sil-" the memory ended abruptly.

The golden hue of the sun returned in sight.

A hand the size of Silas's head probably bigger, abruptly patted him on the back.

"Silas, I'm your new parent, garden." A man in his 20s, broad figure, said with a big smile.

This wasn't there first time meeting.

He was dads guardian friend, another guardian.

"Ask me anything about anything and I'll answer." His voice was heavy but not deep, firm and generous.

"Anything at all" he said again

Silas stared blankly before moving his mouth to form a word.

"How do you become a guardian" Silas said with a child like slur.

Garden gave him a gentle pat on the back then layed his eyes on the sun his face still carrying a soft smile.

"It's faith turned into responsibility, That's all you need. Simple right?" His eyes locked back to Silas giving him another pat on the back.

Silas nodded in agreement.

'What is that supposed to mean' Silas thought, even though he agreed seconds prior.

Garden spoke again "The Sun raises good to fight against bad, that's what a guardian is." He rambled on

His rambling turning to mumbles into the ears of Silas, 'annoying' he thought

His eyes back on the sun.

The boat they were sailing on was a mix between a military carrier and a small cruise ship, it held 200 rooms, it's called a "vessel", a ship designed to transport passengers and mini vessels. It didn't look old in the slightest it wasn't futuristic it was just a lump of perfectly designed metal.

"We're going to be at the harbour soon" garden said calmly.

Each harbour apart of a city, each city named after a great guardian.

"The city of Apex." Garden said

"Do you know him?" Silas spouted

"Nope, not a all." .
