Noor stood before the mirror, looking radiant in a white top paired with blue jeans. Her hair was pulled back into a high ponytail, and her light makeup accentuated her natural beauty. The fitted top hugged her frame, highlighting her youthful elegance—a result of an upbringing where the boundaries of right and wrong had never been clearly drawn.
Today was her best friend Maryam's birthday party at a high-end restaurant. Maryam was her only true friend since she had moved to Dubai four years ago. After her mother's passing, her father, Shahzad Malik, had abruptly moved her from Pakistan. He provided for her every need before she even asked, yet he remained a mysterious figure whose professional life she knew nothing about. At fifteen, just days away from her birthday, Noor was still a protected, innocent tenth-grader.
As she prepared to leave, her phone buzzed. It was Maryam.
"Where are you, yaar? Everyone is here, just waiting for you!" Maryam's voice chirped the moment she picked up. Noor couldn't help but smile at her friend's typical impatience.
"I'm on my way, have some patience! You know Baba rarely lets me out; I got permission with great difficulty," Noor said, stepping out of her room.
"I don't know what Uncle's deal is. Anyway, tell me, how long?"
"Ten minutes, and I'll be there." Noor descended the stairs to find a man in his late thirties, dressed in a sharp black three-piece suit, talking on the phone.
"Okay, we'll talk when I arrive," he said, hanging up. Noor walked over and hugged him. "Baba Jani, you finally found time for me today!"
Shahzad Malik smiled at his princess. "Alright, my doll, hurry up. Abid has been calling me, asking when I'm bringing you. Maryam is waiting."
"Okay, Baba!" Noor cheered, and the two headed out to the party.
The Cold CEO
"Sir, today's meeting has been canceled," Noman Sheikh announced, entering the room and looking at Kaizaan Shah.
Kaizaan shifted his gaze from his laptop. He had traveled to Dubai specifically for this meeting, and the sudden cancellation ignited his temper. Having built a business empire at a young age that spanned Pakistan, Dubai, and Turkey, he didn't take wasted time lightly.
"Cancel all contracts with that company and book my flight back to Pakistan for tonight," he commanded coldly.
"If they didn't want to meet, why waste my time?" he muttered, his irritation peaking.
The Party and the Social Media Star
At the party, Noor was busy taking photos. She was a social media sensation with over five million followers on TikTok and a growing million on Instagram.
"Haye, you look so beautiful, Maryam!" Noor complimented her friend, who was wearing a stunning, sleeveless dark blue floor-length gown.
"You're the one setting the floor on fire," Maryam teased. "Every guy here is staring at you. Especially since you always seem to have a new 'school crush' every other day."
"Stop it, Maryam! I don't like that talk," Noor frowned. It was true that boys often turned heads to look at her, but she had never given anyone the time of day.
The party was in full swing at Zuma, one of Dubai's finest restaurants. While the adults indulged in the finer things, the younger crowd enjoyed soft drinks and dancing on the upper floor.
A Clash of Worlds
Kaizaan Shah was sitting on the lower level of Zuma, passing time before his 10 PM flight. His phone rang—it was his sisters, Aishal and Dua. He knew immediately they were fighting again.
"Bhai, when are you coming back?" Aishal shouted so loudly he had to pull the phone away.
"Bhai, don't pick up that 'mouse's' call!" Dua yelled from the other line.
"Quiet, both of you!" Kaizaan snapped, trying to mediate their ridiculous argument involving ruined drawings and chili-powder-laced coffee. "I'll deal with you two when I get home tonight. If I hear another word, it won't be good."
Meanwhile, Noor had wandered downstairs looking for the perfect lighting for a TikTok video. She sat at a secluded table when a waiter suddenly placed several dishes in front of her.
"Excuse me, I didn't order this," she said.
"This table ordered it, Ma'am," the waiter replied and left.
Seeing her favorite dishes, Noor couldn't resist. She snapped some photos for her story and began to eat with an innocent, cute charm. Suddenly, a man approached and stood over her, his gaze lingering on her with an uncomfortable intensity.
Feeling the heat of his stare, Noor looked up. Imtiaz Shah stood there, his eyes filled with a dark, predatory hunger.
"Don't stop... please, eat comfortably," Imtiaz said with a smirk.
"Is this your food? I... I didn't know," Noor stammered, feeling a wave of panic.
Terrified by the look in his eyes, Noor bolted from the table. Imtiaz tried to follow, but stopped when he saw Kaizaan Shah approaching.
Noor, running blindly in her heels, didn't see the man in front of her. Kaizaan was looking down at his phone. They collided with a force that sent Noor stumbling back. She was about to hit the ground face-first when Kaizaan's hand shot out, gripping her arm firmly to steady her.
Her phone slipped from her hand, crashing loudly onto the floor..
