Chapter 120 - Shadows

He waited for Gerald to finish speaking with his steward before knocking on the door of the study.

Hamhut had met his gaze as he left the room, his stiff face more animated than usual.

The bright beautiful morning had been compromised by a drizzle that had begun. The blue skies had now turned grey.

"Come in." Gerald called out.

As he entered, the older man was standing by the window, taking off his coat.

"Theodore?" Gerald raised a brow, looking genuinely surprised.

"To what do I owe this pleasure?"

Theodore, throwing formalities out the window, dragged a chair and sat down.

"I want to read the rest of her letters."

Gerald blinked.

"Why the sudden interest?"

Even he didn't have an answer for that.

"I just need to know. I see no harm in that."

Gerald nodded very slowly.

"Like I said before, some of them are quite embarrassing… So, I want to know exactly why you intend to read them."
