After an entire sleepless night, the last thing she needed was for him to begin questioning her.
All because he felt he could…
The arrogant idiot.
He hadn't acted a tad bit like the man who had pressed her against a bookshelf and kissed her senseless.
Bartwick was waiting at the end of the hallway.
"He says you should let me use the carriage. Have it prepared right away."
The man's eyes narrowed slightly but he didn't utter a single word.
Eve met his gaze. "You do not believe me? You can go ahead and ask him yourself." Then she gestured at the other end of the hallway where the door to the study was.
"Go on." She urged him.
Bartwick averted his gaze. "I shall ready the carriage for you, my lady." Then he bowed and left.
Just then, Friedrich appeared. He and Bartwick exchanged a few words before the older man hurried off to do as he was bid.
"What has you in a sour mood, my lady?" Friedrich asked, taking her hand and placing a soft kiss on it.
