Chapter 2 - First Battle, First Lesson

The city streets were in chaos. Smoke rose from overturned cars, and debris littered the roads. Civilians screamed and ran for their lives, but Ryan remained calm. He could see everything clearly through his first avatar, Kairo.

"Kairo, stay close but keep your distance. Don't underestimate them," Ryan commanded silently.

The avatar's silver hair shimmered under the chaotic lights of the city. Kairo's piercing green eyes scanned the streets, analyzing every movement. Ryan could feel every thought, every heartbeat of his avatar, as if it were a part of him.

A low growl echoed from an alleyway. Ryan peered through the gap and saw his first real threat: a Ghoulling, a small but vicious monster with claws like razors and eyes glowing red in the shadows. Its teeth were long and jagged, saliva dripping as it advanced toward a group of terrified civilians.

"Kairo… attack," Ryan whispered.

The avatar sprang forward like a shadow, moving faster than the human eye could track. In a fluid motion, Kairo drew his sword and sliced through the Ghoulling's torso. Blood sprayed, but before the monster could fully fall, it reared up on its hind legs and lunged again.

Ryan's mind raced. "This is just the beginning… I need to test his combat instincts."

[New Skill Acquired: Reflex Strike | Level 1]

The system's notification blinked in Ryan's vision. He smiled. Every skill Kairo learned transferred instantly. The avatar was not just a tool—he was a weapon integrated with Ryan himself.

Kairo adjusted his stance, anticipating the Ghoulling's next attack. With a swift leap, he dodged the claws and swung his sword in a wide arc, cleaving the monster cleanly in half. Energy pulsed back into Ryan's body. He felt stronger, faster, sharper.

"This… is incredible," he whispered.

Learning to Trust an Avatar

After the first kill, Ryan stepped back and observed. The city was still filled with minor monsters—Ghoulings, some with mutated forms, others more agile and dangerous. Each time Kairo defeated one, Ryan could feel the transfer of skills, stamina, and battle insight flowing into him.

"I need to create more avatars soon," Ryan thought. "One is not enough for the real battles."

But the system's limit prevented him from creating another… for now. "I need to maximize Kairo's potential first."

He focused. Kairo mirrored every thought: a slash here, a block there. They moved as one. Ryan realized that the stronger the avatar fought, the stronger he became. This wasn't just fighting—it was training without limits.

A New Threat Appears

Suddenly, the ground shook violently. A deep, resonating roar filled the street, drowning out the screams of civilians. Ryan's vision widened as a massive figure emerged from the shattered asphalt—a Brutemaw, a hulking monster over three times the height of a normal man, with spiked armor plating and glowing red eyes. Its presence alone sent waves of fear into anyone nearby.

"Kairo… this is our real test," Ryan thought, adrenaline coursing through him.

The avatar ran forward, but Ryan noticed something strange. The brute's spikes emitted a faint energy that seemed to interfere with the Soul Avatar System. Kairo's movements slowed for a split second. That tiny delay could be fatal.

"Don't panic… analyze!" Ryan thought.

[New Skill Detected: Adaptive Strike | Level 1]

Kairo's sword glowed as he executed a new technique instinctively, slicing at the weak points between the Brutemaw's armored plates. Sparks flew, and the monster roared in pain. Energy surged back to Ryan again, more powerful this time.

"Yes… yes! This is amazing!" Ryan muttered. His hands clenched, feeling power he never imagined possible.

Strategy Over Strength

Ryan realized brute force alone wouldn't win this fight. The Brutemaw's sheer size and armor required strategy, precision, and timing.

He directed Kairo silently:

Step 1: Draw attention to the left flank.

Step 2: Attack weak points in rapid succession.

Step 3: Use mobility to avoid counterattacks.

Kairo obeyed perfectly. The fight became a deadly dance. Each strike and dodge flowed seamlessly. The monster lashed with its tail, but Kairo rolled under, delivering a critical strike to the knee joint. The armor cracked.

[Level Up: Kairo | Level 2]

The avatar's skill and power surged. Ryan felt his own body expand with newfound strength and stamina. "This… is too powerful…" he thought, half in awe, half in disbelief.

Civilian Rescue

While the battle raged, Ryan noticed a group of civilians trapped near falling debris. The Ghoullings were still attacking. Without thinking, he split his focus: Kairo continued fighting the Brutemaw, while Ryan mentally directed the civilians to safer positions, coordinating escape routes through subtle cues and precise timing.

It worked. Civilians escaped without a scratch, and Kairo executed a finishing blow on the Brutemaw, sending it crashing into a nearby building. The monster twitched, then fell still.

Ryan and Kairo stood in the middle of the ruined street, breathing heavily, energy still pulsing through them. The city was quiet—for now.

Realization and Ambition

Ryan looked at Kairo. "We just did it… the first battle… and I can feel everything he felt. This… this is going to change everything."

The avatar bowed slightly. "Master… I am ready for the next command."

Ryan smiled. His mind raced with possibilities: more avatars, stronger abilities, dungeons, monsters, and eventually… ruling the battlefield himself.

But deep down, he knew one thing. This was just the beginning. The world was dangerous, filled with hunters, monsters, and those who would see him as a threat. He had to grow stronger—fast.

Ryan's eyes narrowed. "Then we train… until we are unstoppable."

The city lay in ruins, the sky darkened by the lingering rift, but Ryan no longer felt fear. He felt excitement, power, and destiny calling him forward.
