The woman's words cut deeply. But, under the dim office lights, Mark did not look away. He had trained himself for two years to no longer be taken aback by the coldness of the world, including the coldness of the woman standing before him.
Mark believed that coming to terms with a situation did not always mean forgiving one another. The woman in front of him had come to terms with the fact that she was now in power, but she couldn't forget the past when Mark had wronged her, so her hatred could no longer be erased.
Celine turned her back on Mark, preparing to walk away. But just as her slender fingers touched the doorknob, Mark's voice stopped her.
"The grandeur of your skyscraper won't be able to hide what's still unresolved between us," Mark said.
"An ending is never truly clean if it's celebrated at the top of your tower."
