"The bad news..." he continued, cutting off the excited whispers before they could spread any further.
"...is that it means I will begin evaluating all of you right away."
The classroom instantly became quiet again.
"Even today's hospital rounds will contribute to your evaluation."
Vastor slowly looked around the room.
"My job is to identify talented healers."
He stroked his mustache thoughtfully.
"To separate gold from shiny trash."
The words hit the students harder than expected.
Most of the enthusiasm in the front rows disappeared immediately.
Several students looked nervous.
One boy was gripping his desk so tightly that his knuckles had turned white.
Another appeared on the verge of being sick.
This was nothing like they had imagined their first day of specialization would be.
Instead of a gentle introduction, they were already being tested.
Vastor, on the other hand, seemed highly amused by their reactions.
A slightly sadistic grin appeared on his face as he curled one end of his mustache.
"Wonderful."
The professor nodded approvingly.
"A little fear is healthy."
Several students looked even more nervous.
"Now then, let's not waste any more time."
He clapped his hands together.
"First of all, who can tell me what are the greatest limitations of Tier One to Tier Three Light Magic?"
Ash raised his hand.
So did almost everyone else in the classroom.
Professor Vastor looked around before randomly selecting a student.
"You, with the snobbish face. Feel free to share your answer with the class."
He pointed toward a girl with shoulder-length black hair sitting in the first row.
The girl frowned.
"Professor, my name is actually—"
"I don't care."
Vastor cut her off immediately.
The entire classroom fell silent.
"I expect at least half of you to drop out within the first six months."
He shrugged.
"So I won't bother remembering your names yet."
Several students immediately turned red with anger.
Others looked shocked.
A few seemed genuinely offended.
Ash, meanwhile, had to suppress a smile.
Compared to some of the nobles he had met throughout his life, Professor Vastor was actually rather fair.
At least he didn't discriminate.
He treated everyone equally badly.
In a strange way, that was almost refreshing.
She could only swallow her pride and answer.
"The lower tiers of Light Magic have two insurmountable limitations. The first is that Light Magic can only enhance the patient's natural recovery. If he or she has suffered excessive blood loss or is already on the verge of death, healing magic becomes useless."
"The second limitation—"
"Okay, enough."
Vastor cut her off and pointed at Ash.
"Your turn."
Ash nodded and answered immediately.
"The second limitation is that it cannot regrow lost body parts, whether organs or limbs. Cleanly severed fingers or extremities can be reattached, but only if they are properly preserved and treated within an hour of the amputation."
"Correct and correct!"
Vastor nodded, though he almost sounded disappointed that the answers had come so easily.
"Now then, who can tell me how, hypothetically, the first issue could be solved?"
Once again, almost every student in the classroom raised their hand.
This time he pointed at Ash saying " You with everyone here is shit face"
Ash raised his brow but didn't mind as he begin to say.
"It can be achieved by feeding Darkness Magic into Light Magic and enhancing its properties."
For a moment, the room fell silent.
Several students looked at him as if he had just said something completely ridiculous.
After all, Light and Darkness were supposed to be opposing elements.
However, contrary to their expectations, Professor Vastor nodded.
"Excellent."
The professor smiled.
"That is indeed another solution."
The students immediately looked shocked.
Vastor then turned toward Ash.
"But how do you know that?"
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"As far as I know, that isn't something an ordinary commoner or any non healer specialist should be aware of."
Ash simply shrugged.
"I've been working with my mother since I was five years old."
Several students blinked in surprise.
"My mother is a healer, and I often helped her treat patients."
He leaned back slightly in his seat.
"So I've seen and studied a lot over the years."
Vastor looked at Ash in amazement.
"Are you saying you discovered that on your own?"
He stared at the young boy for a moment.
Ash nodded calmly.
"It wasn't easy. It took me almost two years to find a reliable way to regrow severed limbs."
The classroom fell silent.
Several students looked at him in disbelief.
Even Vastor was momentarily stunned.
Regenerating lost limbs was not something ordinary healers could accomplish.
Many trained healers spent years studying before reaching that level.
"It's impressive."
Vastor nodded slowly.
"We'll certainly be able to judge the extent of your mastery once we reach the hospital."
Internally, he had already marked Ash as one of the most promising students in the class.
At the very least, he was an A-rank student.
If Ash's practical abilities matched his knowledge, he might even qualify as an S-rank talent.
At that moment, another student raised a hand.
"But Professor, how can Darkness Magic help Light Magic?"
Vastor nodded.
"A good question."
He waved his hand through the air, using First Magic to create a black-and-white symbol resembling the ancient concept of Yin and Yang.
The symbol slowly rotated before the class.
"The greatest legacy left behind by Magus Silverwing is the understanding that Light and Darkness are not true opposites."
He pointed at the rotating symbol.
"They are two halves of the same whole."
"They exist together in all living things."
"When one pushes, the other pulls."
"When Light moves forward, Darkness moves backward."
"And when Darkness advances, Light retreats."
The students listened attentively.
"When they exist in harmony, life flourishes."
"When that balance is broken, only death remains."
Vastor then pointed at the white half of the symbol.
"Light Magic guides and stabilizes life force."
Next, he pointed at the black half.
"Darkness Magic extracts and transfers energy."
He looked around the room.
"The secret behind Tier Four Light Magic is weaving those two forces together."
"Darkness Magic draws the life force from the donor."
"Light Magic allows that life force to enter the patient's body safely and without backlash."
