Chapter 3 - Episode 3: The Forbidden Spellbook

The town was peaceful that morning. Bakers pulling bread outta ovens, goats wandering like they owned the place, and kids, of course, screaming for fun near the fountain. Everything normal.

Totally boring. Until the ground shook.

THUD.

THUD. THUD.

Buildings rattled. Windows cracked. And then… a giant monster stomped into the square. Three horns, thick stone-like skin, glowing eyes that screamed "I'm mad and you're lunch", and massive claws. It swung a building like a toy.

The townsfolk were screaming. Screaming, running, tripping over their own feet. Chaos. Delicious chaos.

And on top of the monster's head, of course, was Whiskers. Clinging for dear life.

"MEEEOOOW!" he screeched, which might have been a battle cry, or maybe a please let me down cry. Hard to tell with cats.

The Wizard, walking through town with a basket of potion ingredients like he owned the place, froze.

"Oh no," he said. The kind of oh no that gets everyone in trouble.

"Whiskers?" he said, squinting. Yep. That's him.

"You opened the spellbook, didn't you?!"

Whiskers blinked. Innocent. And probably plotting. Definitely plotting.

Earlier That Day The Wizard had been at the magical library, sneaking around like some wizard ninja, creeping past floating books and whispering scrolls. The Librarian, old as the mountains and twice as cranky, pointed at the massive chained book.

"This," said the Librarian, voice slow and serious, "is the Forbidden Spellbook. Especially… page 347. Don't touch it."

Whiskers was licking his paw, because obviously.

"I just need it for research," the Wizard said, smiling nervously. Im Definitely not summoning giant monsters for fun. Well maybe my cat whiskers wizard laughs not joking knowing it's true.

The Librarian narrowed one eye. "Return it before sunset."

The Wizard nodded. " No problem."

Whiskers, meanwhile, was already plotting.

Back at the cottage, the Wizard had placed the spellbook on the table and went off to gather potion ingredients. "Do not touch this," he said, pointing at Whiskers. Door shuts. Silence. Cue evil grin from the cat.

The book creaked open on its own. Pages flipped wildly. Whiskers pawed at a glowing bookmark. Page 347 stopped glowing at just the right (wrong) moment.

"Meow?"

Suddenly, a BLINDING FLASH erupted from the page. And poof. Out came a massive monster, roaring and smashing its way through the cottage wall like a construction crew with anger management issues.

Whiskers was on its head, holding on like the world's smallest, furriest stunt pilot.

Chaos in the Town The monster stomped through the town square, flipping carts, knocking over barrels, and causing everyone to run for their lives.

"Of course," said the Wizard, dodging flying vegetables. "Of course he opened the spellbook. Why would he not?"

The Wizard flipped open the book, trying to find a solution.

"Binding spell… binding spell… yeah, that'll do it…" he muttered. Magical chains shot out, wrapping around the monster. It roared, struggled, broke the chains, and everyone screamed some more.

"Okay," said the Wizard, flipping pages faster than a caffeinated librarian. "Second part! Must be… must be…"

Ah. "To return the creature, the summoner must be on the beast."

The Wizard blinked. Looked at Whiskers.

"You… summoner?" he asked.

Whiskers blinked back, nonchalant, like: duh.

The Wizard opened the spellbook on the ground. Monster charging. Whiskers leapt from the monster's head like a furry missile.

"NOW WHISKERS!" yelled the Wizard. Chains shot out again, swirling, wrapping, sparkling. The monster was pulled toward the book.

ROOOOAR. Struggle. One final pull. WHOOMP. Monster gone. Just… gone. The spellbook slammed shut. Silence. Town in shambles, but standing.

Wizard wiped sweat off his brow. "No more forbidden spells," he said, glaring at Whiskers.

Whiskers nodded. Totally innocent.

The Wizard left.

Silence.

Whiskers slowly opened the chest. Book glows. He flips a page.

"SUMMON DRAGON."

Eyes wide. Tail twitching.

"Meow."

Distant DRAGON ROAR echoes outside.
