Chapter 13 - Orders and Insults

By the start of the fourth month, MaSimukonda's behavior became openly hostile.

She began criticizing how Nalubamba cooked, cleaned, and even tended to the cattle.

"Do not pound the maize that way. My grandchildren need smooth nshima," she said one morning, her voice cold and sharp.

Nalubamba kept silent, remembering the Tonga value of patience and respect.

But deep down, her heart was breaking. She whispered a prayer to Masansa, the ancestral spirit of guidance and protection, hoping for strength.
