Chapter 139 - Chapter 139 : Operation Papa Phase 2

Philo didn't stop to catch her breath. The adrenaline from analyzing Haruto's raw power and tangling with Daisy was still surging through her veins, demanding an outlet. She needed to test her own limits, to push her tech-magic against something that wouldn't break so easily.

With a focused smirk, she activated her high-tech bracelet again, punching in a new set of coordinates. "Time to really crank up the heat," she whispered to herself.

Vwoom—!

A vortex of digital distortion tore open the air around her, and Philo vanished from the frozen Layer 80. When reality solidified again, she was standing on scorching, cracked earth under an oppressive, blood-orange sky. This was Layer 85, a desolate, seemingly endless desert wasteland known for its brutal heat and gargantuan native lifeforms.

Philo stood perfectly still in the center of a vast, open dune. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath of the dry air, and then threw her arms wide open. Instantly, a brilliant, crackling emerald-green aura exploded outward from her body in a furious sphere. It wasn't just energy; it was a tangible wave of raw digital code. Countless shimmering lines of binary—glowing 0s and 1s—streamed from her aura, weaving through the desert air like fireflies, infecting the very environment with her presence.

The ground began to tremble, then violently shake. Deep within the distant sand dunes, massive forms were stirring, drawn by the sudden spike in potent magic.

Within moments, Philo was completely surrounded by thousands of terrifying monsters. These weren't small fries; they were towering, ten-floor-high behemoths with obsidian scales and scythe-like claws, their eyes burning with primal aggression as they closed the circle around the lone girl.

But that wasn't all.

From the deepest crevice of the desert floor, a shadow rose that eclipsed the sun. It was the floor's apex predator—a monster so colossal that its head seemed to scrape the bruised, orange sky, dwarfing even the mountain-sized creatures around it.

The sheer pressure was enough to crush a normal human.

Philo looked up at the impossible army surrounding her, her eyes widening not in fear, but in absolute, electric thrill. She threw her head back and let out a wild, carefree laugh that echoed across the wasteland.

"Oh, now this is what I'm talking about!" she yelled, her voice booming with excitement. "Let's have some real fun!"

In a fluid, practiced motion, she reached over her shoulder. A massive, devastatingly powerful, high-tech railgun—sleek black metal glowing with vibrant green power conduits—unfolded from her harness, locking firmly into place over her shoulder.

Simultaneously, her right hand snapped out, and with a flash of digital light, a menacing, intricately forged tactical combat knife materialized in her grip.

But it was her left hand that held the true centerpiece. As her left arm swung down, a huge, radiant, neon-green greatsword, pulsing with unstable digital energy, solidified into a solid blade, humming with lethal potential.

Philo stood there, armed to the teeth against a legion of titans, smiling a dangerous, predatory grin. The battle was about to begin.

The sandstorm cleared, leaving behind a silence that felt heavier than the battle itself.

The entire expanse of the Layer 85 arena was drenched in crimson, the earth scorched, fractured, and littered with the absolute carnage of thousands of slaughtered beasts. Not a single monster was left standing. At the very peak of the colossal, mountain-sized titan's carcass sat Philo, looking as though she had just stepped out of a digital simulation rather than a bloodbath.

She held her tactical dagger up to the dim, orange light. The blade was completely drenched in thick, dark monster blood, and a wild, unstable wisp of green aura leaked violently from her left eye. With a chillingly calm motion, Philo tilted her head and licked a stray droplet of blood right off the edge of the dagger, a dark, manic thrill dancing in her expression.

Ding!

A sharp, glowing green system notification flashed across her field of vision:

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION: Level Up! ]\

[Current Level: 93]

Philo burst out laughing, her voice echoing across the wasteland of corpses. "Woah! Who would've thought a slaughter like this would actually push my level up?!"

Suddenly, a whirring mechanical sound broke the silence. From behind the giant carcass, a retro looking highly advanced spherical robot rolled forward on tracks, glowing with distinct neon-green digital accents.

The robot's optical sensor blinked as it scanned the devastation. "Master, you've caused an extraordinary amount of destruction yet again," it synthesized in a flat, robotic tone. "And to think... During your encounter earlier, you mentioned that girl was even more powerful than you. What was her name again? Lilith?"

Philo stood up slowly from the apex of the monster's corpse, wiping the blood from her blade. Her expression turned dead serious, a thoughtful frown replacing her manic grin. "Ah... that girl's strength is genuinely terrifying.

I can feel it in my bones. And that boy she's connected with... his power isn't normal either. There's something deeply abnormal about Lilith. She's operating on a level of raw, overwhelming power that completely eclipses even my own."

The retro robot tilted its metallic dome. "Master, do you suppose she is a reincarnation of a higher deity?"

Philo stared out across the blood-soaked horizon, narrowing her luminous green eyes. "If she is... then aligning ourselves on her side—or at least staying on her good side—is the only smart move we can make."

The robot whirred quietly, its lights pulsing.

"Understood, Master. Should I plot a course back to the lower layers?"

Philo sheathed her dagger, a confident smirk returning to her face as she summoned her system interface.

"Yeah. Zero... bring me back down to Layer 10. Let's go find them."

The digital hum of Philo's retro-robot companion, Zero, faded out as the sleek machine dissolved into a stream of green binary code, merging seamlessly back into the high-tech lining of Philo's suit.

Stepping silently through the dim corridors of Layer 10, Philo navigated back to the group's camp. Inside the main tent, the rest of the crew was fast asleep, but Lilith was resting near the edge, her sharp instincts still partially active even in sleep.

Philo walked over and nudged her gently.

Lilith's eyes snapped open instantly, a defensive glint in her gaze. She sat up, rubbing her eyes with a scowl. "What is it?"

"I need to talk to you. Outside. Now," Philo whispered, turning around and walking out into the quiet open cavern.

Lilith frowned, shooting a suspicious glance toward the sleeping forms of Toya and the others before quietly slipping out of the tent to follow her.

Outside, the cool subterranean air hung heavy. Philo didn't stand up; instead, she casually dropped backward, lying flat on the cold ground of the cavern floor, staring up at the distant vaulted ceiling.

Lilith crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow at the bizarre behavior, and cautiously laid down on the ground a few feet away from her. "Alright. We're outside."

Philo turned her head slightly, her luminous green eyes locking onto Lilith. "I want to know why someone as terrifyingly powerful as you is spending so much time and energy hunting down a single kid. Why him?"

Lilith stared up at the dark stone overhead, a rare, soft vulnerability crossing her features. Her voice dropped to a quiet, earnest murmur. "Because I love him."

Philo blinked, a look of genuine disbelief crossing her face. She sat up slightly, propping herself up on one elbow. "Love? Why? What could a powerful girl like you possibly see in someone like that?"

Lilith sighed, letting out a small, helpless breath. "I don't know... honestly, I don't even know myself."

In a fraction of a second, Philo's casual posture vanished. Her eyes flashed with predatory curiosity.

With lightning-fast reflexes, she leaped up, materialized her glowing neon-green combat dagger out of thin air, and lunged downward, using her full weight and speed to pin Lilith flat against the ground, driving the blade straight down right beside Lilith's cheek so hard it embedded deep into the stone floor with a sharp crack.

Lilith's eyes widened in sudden shock. "What the hell is this for?!"

"Just testing your reflexes!" Philo smirked, pressing the blade closer.

Before Philo could finish her sentence, a strange, phantom sensation brushed lightly against the back of her neck—a flicker of absolute, suffocating pressure that made her concentration slip for a split second.

Philo gasped, her eyes darting downward in sheer terror.

In the blink of an eye, the tables had completely turned. Lilith was no longer pinned; instead, she was hovering directly over Philo, pressing her down firmly against the ground. And the neon-green dagger? It was completely out of Philo's grip, now held effortlessly in Lilith's hand, the razor-sharp tip resting gently right against Philo's throat.

Lilith's expression was ice cold, her mismatched gaze burning with absolute dominance. She tilted the blade slightly, her voice dropping into a chilling, authoritative whisper.

"Now," Lilith said, pressing the cold steel a fraction closer. "Tell me why you really did that."

Philo's breath hitched in her throat as she stared up at the blade. Her speed and technique were so fast I didn't even see her move!

In a sudden flicker of digital distortion, the Philo pinned beneath Lilith simply dissolved into thin air.

Clap... clap... clap...

Lilith whipped her head around, her eyes narrowing as she heard slow, echoing applause coming from right behind her. Philo stood leaning casually against a nearby rock formation, a bright, triumphant grin on her face. The neon-green dagger was already gone from Lilith's hand, safely rematerialized back in Philo's inventory.

"Alright, alright, you win!" Philo laughed, raising her hands in mock surrender. "That was just a high-speed spatial clone. Figured out pretty quick that you're way more powerful than me, didn't you?"

Lilith stood up, dusting off her clothes with a cold, unamused glare. "Cut the games. Why pull a stunt like that?"

"Just testing how you react when pushed," Philo said, walking closer with a confident smirk. Then, her tone shifted, becoming serious and calculated. "Besides... I happen to know where the guy you're looking for is."

Lilith froze, her heart skipping a beat as her eyes locked onto Philo. "Where?"

"A place called Gampid City," Philo replied smoothly.

Lilith frowned, wracking her memory. "Gampid City? I've never heard of any sector by that name down here."

"That's because it's completely off the grid," Philo explained, tapping her high-tech gauntlet. "And before you ask how I know, trust me—my van is currently out of fuel, so we'll have to drive there the old-fashioned way. It'll take us about twenty days of travel to reach it."

Lilith eyed her suspiciously, crossing her arms. "How could you possibly know he's there? What proof do you have?"

Philo smirked, leaning in closer. "Think about it. Does your Haruto happen to transform? Like... his hair turning completely white, and both of his eyes flashing a bright, piercing red?"

Lilith's breath caught in her throat. The exact memory of Haruto's volatile, terrifying transformation during the wizard quests flashed vividly through her mind. Her eyes widened with shock. "W-Wait... how do you know about that?!"

"Because," Philo said with a knowing wink, stepping back toward where her transport materialized. "I just saw him a little while ago in that same way. So, are we going, or what?"

Lilith narrowed her eyes, studying Philo closely. "Is it actually safe there?"

"Yeah, completely safe," Philo replied with an assuring shrug.

"And it's not some kind of trap?" Lilith pressed, her instincts still on high alert.

"Relax, it's not a trap," Philo answered confidently.

Lilith turned away, her mind racing as she weighed the situation. She's exceptionally powerful on her own... she might even be a reincarnation of some higher entity. I need to keep her close on our side. Otherwise, if she turns hostile, she could become a massive threat to Haruto.

A resolute look settled over Lilith's features. Deciding that keeping her as an ally was the safest path, she nodded. "Alright. I'll go get the others ready."

As Philo turned back to her high-tech van to run a system diagnostic and prep the fuel coordinates from her data interface, Lilith glanced down at the sleek ring glinting on her finger. Taking a deep breath, she turned and marched straight into the tent, clapping her hands together to wake the resting crew.

"Wake up, everyone!" Lilith called out sharply. "Pack your gear—we're moving out now."
