Chapter 9 - War in the Moonlit Forest

The forest trembled under the weight of the coming storm.

Hunters were everywhere. Silver weapons glinted in the moonlight, and the air hummed with magic. The Fairy Court wasn't coming to negotiate they came to annihilate.

Kael's pack spread across the clearing, a living wall of muscle, teeth, and claws. But Kael didn't just give commands he moved with an almost terrifying obsession, eyes scanning, senses locked on Lia. Every flicker of her golden aura, every movement of her wings, every heartbeat was his focus.

"Stay behind me," he growled, stepping in front of her.

"I won't," Lia said sharply. Her wings unfurled fully now, light flaring, casting long shadows across the trees. Magic hummed through her veins, and for the first time she didn't hide it. Every spell she cast, every root and vine that rose from the ground, was amplified by Kael's proximity, by their bond, by the sheer force of their connection.

Kael's lips twitched not in a smile, but in something dark. Possessive. Dangerous.

Mine.

The thought reverberated through the clearing, instinctively felt by every wolf. Rowan hesitated. The younger wolves exchanged nervous glances. Kael's obsession wasn't subtle anymore it was controlling, borderline dangerous, yet entirely protective.

"Alpha.." Rowan started.

"Shut up," Kael snapped. His golden eyes burned. "If anyone touches her… I will kill them. All of them. No exceptions."

Even the wolves flinched. They knew their Alpha could back up the threat.

The attack began suddenly.

From above, dozens of fairy hunters swooped down, glinting silver blades aimed at Lia. They were faster than before, coordinated, and ruthless. Kael didn't hesitate. He shifted instantly into wolf form, massive and black, his roar shaking the very air.

Lia rose into the air, wings beating furiously. Golden magic radiated from her, roots and vines twisting into barriers, hurling the first line of attackers back. The pack moved as one, integrating her magic into their strategy. Every wolf lunged where Lia's spells guided them, claws shredding silver, fangs tearing armor.

Kael's eyes never left her. Every hunter that approached her met his wrath first. Wolves and magic merged seamlessly, a single force predator and mate, magic and muscle.

One hunter broke through the defenses, aiming directly at Lia. Kael leapt, intercepting the attack mid-air. The hunter's blade shattered against Kael's claws, sparks of silver scattering across the forest. His growl was low and possessive, vibrating with his obsession:

"You touch her, you die."

Lia gasped, heart racing, but didn't step back. Instead, she unleashed a torrent of energy, a concentrated burst of fairy light that seared the forest floor, taking out two hunters in a single pulse. Her magic flowed stronger than ever, intertwined with Kael's presence.

Their bond was solidifying in fire and blood.

Every movement, every attack, every breath synchronized. It wasn't just protection anymore it was a living, breathing weapon.

The commander of the Fairy Court emerged from the shadows, eyes blazing with fury. "You cannot keep her!" he shouted. "The Court demands she returns!"

Kael stepped forward, wolf and human form blurring in a surge of power. His voice was a growl and a whisper, all at once. "She's mine. You want her? You'll go through me first."

He leapt, claws flashing, knocking the commander off balance. Lia surged beside him, golden energy spiraling around them both, tearing through the soldiers in synchronized fury. Every spell she cast seemed to anticipate Kael's attacks; every swipe he made created openings for her magic. They were no longer two they were one.

The forest burned with power, light, and shadow. The pack roared behind them, a tidal wave of rage and strength. Hunters fell, retreating where they could, but the sheer intensity of Kael and Lia's combined power made it clear: the Fairy Court had underestimated them.

Finally, after what felt like hours, the forest fell silent. Smoke curled from broken trees. Silver weapons littered the ground.

Kael shifted back to human form, dragging a trembling Lia into his arms. Her wings drooped slightly, but her golden aura still shimmered. She looked up at him, exhausted, heart racing not just from the battle, but from the intensity of their bond.

Kael rested his forehead against hers, golden eyes glowing dangerously. "Do you feel it?" he whispered.

She nodded, chest heaving. "Our bond… it's stronger than ever."

He smiled dark, possessive, and absolute. "Good. Because now, no one touches you. Not the Court. Not anyone."

The pack circled around them, awe and fear in their eyes. Kael's obsession had escalated, yes but it had saved them all.

The Fairy Court had been pushed back. The war had only just begun.

But Kael and Lia… their bond had solidified under fire, combining magic and raw wolf power. And the dark, dangerous, addictive romance-war had officially begun.
